People will like a quick support on Windows 8.1. Do you remember the saga for Windows 8 compatibility? = Avira Internet Security 2013 ...... not follow yet!!! = -----------------------
So, we don't want a repetition..... Especially all of us which we have paid versions. Otherwise be prepared for a large number of users requesting a refund..........
Stefan, could you told us what things will come to us,? Just a news for every one 2014 will release at 1st October,2013 (According to one of the Avira Gold Partner)
Why doesnt Avira catch "Eicar test file" on realtime? How to: open Notepad type: X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H* Then use "save" or "save as" Avira doesnt get it on saving, but scanning shows it s a Eicar file others such as MSE and ESET catch it on realtime Any idea?
I just wait and see how many complains will got when 2014 release at 1/10/2013 it seems release too fast,it not finish development yet, most bundle software inside 2014 not ready to release yet. the program didn't finish the comparability for 8.1 also
The on-access scan is extension based by default, I guess you did safe the EICAR as .TXT, right? Try saving it as "EICAR.COM" (including ")
We’ve listened: Goodbye Notifier Ads! By way of confirmation, the so called “Notifier” which for the Free Antivirus users pops up once a day (if you didn’t install the Avira Search Free Toolbar) to sell you something is about to disappear. Starting with October 1st, you will never see it again. For more information, please have a look here : http://techblog.avira.com/2013/09/27/weve-listened-goodbye-notifier-ads/en/

I've re-installed Avira with all its real time protections as I need a quick way to assess infections in third party USB flash drives (it is done virtualized so that any strange behaviour can be monitored, just in case). Well, I'm pleased to report that system impact is even less than Windows Defender, it is quite amazing how light it is. Then I was about to install the latest version of Sandboxie beta, when Avira paused the installation asking permission to analyse the package, presumably cloud analyses for about 5 seconds, after which the installation resumed automatically. The only problem that I've encountered is WMI, sometimes (it happened twice) Action Centre/Security within Windows 8 reports no presence of any AV or AS for a while, I have no idea what might cause this alert, but then it doesn't persist for long. I usually revert to on demand status after my busy period ends, but I think this time I will keep Avira full installation permanently as I really feel there is no performance impact.
A team has been working on a new virus database files + update mechanism, integration is underway for the internal SDKs but will take a bit to be released for the mainline products, as (you may agree) updater and engine are pretty critical components, and there's a lot to take into account. It will drastically improve initialization time, reduce average download sizes etc.
