Roger, please stop! We all know how you feel about Webroot. You've stated it over and over and over again. We get it; you don't like it and think it's a very poor AV. Some people choose to use it in spite of what the "tests" say. That is their right. Please quite trying to convince people how useless it is. I feel like those old knock-em-over toys/balloons that kept popping back up again once you knocked them down.

Well said @Alexhousek :thumb: because this thread is starting to sound like a broken record.

You guys are like a cult, it is just a software, no need to ignore reality to defend it.

And no, I am not a random hater, I was with Prevx/WSA since the beginning.

The fact is Webroot Secure Anywhere has stopped in time, all its competitors have made amazing advances in the cloud protection departament/machine learning while integrating and upgrading the "old" technology (emulator/advanced heuristics/HIPS/behavior blocker and so on).

Thanks @roger_m for your posts, I know for sure that you are not a hater and you are just posting your experience and real thoughts about this security solution.

About me and Prevx/WSA, just some background:

Why did WSA get bought for 600 Million if they are such a bad company.

You guys are hilarious. You come and invade and completely take over this thread—incidentally, all of you from a Forum (that I prefer not to name) that is the most anti-Webroot forum on this planet—and the moment any one of us makes the slightest attempt to push back against your statements, you call us a cult* for having the audacity to do so.

@Nightwalker, I was, when I found the time, going to respond to your posts about your infection with Sality—actually somewhat sypathetically—but I'm frankly not inclined to bother any more. This thread has become a circus (like all the Webroot threads on that other Forum) and, unless things change drastically, should sadly imho be completely closed down.

*some of you would call us much, much worse if you could—and, indeed, do so liberally on that other Forum—but you know that moderators here would take a decidedly dim view of such behaviour and your days here would be very much numbered

I was a member here, for many years before I was a member at Malwaretips and I've never participated in the Webroot thread there. We state truths about Webroot and you and others tell us off for daring to criticise Webroot, rather than providing any actual evidence to support your belief that is somehow better than antiviruses which actually detect more malware (I can provide plenty of evidence which proves otherwise). I say that Webroot does worse in testing, than big name antiviruses. Rather than realising that it is a big problem and that it needs to do better, the response is always that it doesn't matter, because it was not designed to do well in testing. I say that even if Webroot is not a very good antivirus, if you take some care you'll probably never get infected. While this should indicate that I'm not just bashing Webroot for the sake of it, or trying to get anyone to ditch it, the response is, why do you keep bashing Webroot and its users.

Yet strangely, it is possibly to have a reasoned discussion about any other security software, without users of it endlessly blindly defending it.

    Not so
Not so in any way (but we don't repeat the same evidence ad nauseam—maybe that's what you meant?)

Truth is in the eye of the beholder. Just because you state it does not mean that it is any more a truth than what others are stating on this topic...very arrogant of you to believe that you are stating the truth...but then again...it seems to be in 'the eye of the beholder'...LOL

And now we come back to the nub of the contention...because most of the so called experts have IMHO (and based on what I have read) no real understanding of how WRSA works...you think that you have but patently, from your comments, you have missed some very salient points that have oft been offered...but ignored...so I won't even bother to offer once more...as they will just be ignored...again...obviously.

We just need to agree to differ in our views. Some say it does not work as well as other 'traditional' AVs/ISs...some say that it is as good (I would not go as far as to say 'better'). We should leave it at that so that anyone intereseted in getting an overall view on the topic does not feel like they have walked into the middle of a bitching match...we are not helping them.

Ease of being to you all!

Today macOS Catalina was released. If you plan on installing the upgrade and are running Webroot for Mac Please uninstall Webroot before upgrading. Webroot is still Not Compatible with macOS Catalina and you will run into problems. Webroot is working hard with Apple to get WSA compatible with macOS Catalina. Will update when compatible.

Unfortunately nothing has changed. People are still being harrased and ridiculed if they say nice things about Webroot on MT. Recently one of my friends( he is here at Wilders too) had post deleted there). The worst is the admins let it happend.

Are you sure it wasn't deleted for other reasons? Because I'm fairly sure I could say positive things about the identity shield and my post wouldn't get deleted.

People are allowed to compare AVs there. So anyone can say pros and cons of whatever security software they want.

Can you say exactly what was your friend post about?

I totally agree! There is a group of people on MT who absolutely hate Webroot and make no qualms about how much they hate it. They have nothing good to say about it and go on and on about how poor it is. The also make fun of or demean anyone who has something positive to say about Webroot. I've quite reading any Webroot threads there and recommend the same for anyone who wants to read unbiased views on Webroot.

I was a long-time Webroot user and still believe it is a good and very light AV. However, because of the sale of Webroot, I've made the decision to switch to a different AV. But, I certainly wouldn't tell people to not use Webroot or that it's terrible.

It was actually a kind of friendly bantering, that suddenly became very serious. One of the MT group started by telling me "if I didn't want to tell Webroot they should have Webroot tested another way, as I had said that was necesarry to get a more accurate picture of what it could, then I should just be quiet! Of course I told him I would tell about my experience with Webroot as I saw fit. My friend answered "Yes that was what he wanted" (The MT guy). Those post was deleted, and there was no real angry words. Be careful what you say when you talk about Webroot when you are visiting Malwaretips!
There is a little group, that can be shall we say special when they hear the word Webroot. I have always told on Malwaretips I have used Webroot in over 8 years with good results, and that little group didn't like that. What I'm most confused about, is the admin group(?) that let everything bad go through, and then delete peaceful posts like my friends. And all he said was "Yes you would like that" to the guy that told me to just stay quiet(?) And he even used a smiley so everybody could see it was friendly bantering. I dont really understand that place anymore.

Yes I have found out. I was actually happy being there, and I also had several friends, so I dont wanna make more noise about it. But tell about it? Of course.:)

That is why, in my opinion, MT should be completely avoided by anyone who wants unbiased advice when searching out for an AV/IS...Wilders is a far better place to get an unbiased view.
