Don't you have to choose custom install to avoid the toolbar? It's been a while since install so I can't recall with assurance.
Look, people are aware of Avira and their deal with Ask. If you don't like this AV just use another one. There is plenty of choices out there. You can use Avast with google or you can use AVG with adds in your face. For windows 8 users you don't even get to choose. The Ask toolbar is not offered.
The Ask toolbar is not offered. Correct? So a simple question arises: Tell me which is the purpose and why Avira continues to install the ask files (ApnToolbarInstaller.exe, ApnlC.dll, ApnStub.exe) in Windows 8 and Avira Premium? http://i.imgur.com/UiR5elu.png ------------------------ There is no way to avoid the installation of above mentioned files files (ApnToolbarInstaller.exe, ApnlC.dll, ApnStub.exe). Even if you manually delete them later on, will come back (all of them) with next Avira VDF update...
I always install Avira Premium and free with custom install as I'm not really interested in having all the modules, and I can remember the option of the toolbar being clearly visible (but I don't remember whether the option was checked in by default or not). Therefore I really don't know if the recommended install comes with the option of a toolbar or it is automatically installed . I like to think that anybody who buys the premium version would be careful to check the wizard as it progresses installing Avira. As far as my experience goes, on the machines with the premium version (Vista and Windows eight) I have never ever had a pop up of any kind except for the update notifier. With the free version (2 machines) a big pop up shows me the various differences between the paid versions of Avira just after updating. What seems to bother immensely 7anon is the existence and persistence of the ask files even after deleting them. I suppose their purpose is to be on the ready if one has suddenly the urge to install the ask toolbar! I really don't think Avira is trying to get private information out of its customers. I would really worry about the latest NSA spying scandal for matters of privacy.
I believe that for Win 7 users the toolbar is opt out, and frankly I'd be as concerned about Google ,Facebook and the like as much as Ask.
That's a very "convenient" explanation... Not yours, I mean from Avira's side. If Avira wants to satisfy the above mentioned ask late lover , there are so many different solutions to do it. Somebody is paid in order to help the ask to collect private information. Think about it..... Can Privacy Exist on the Internet? Who believes that?
Those ask installer files are totally harmless and are there in case anyone wishes to install the webguard toolbar. I see no issue with this at all and some of the comments in this very thread are quite paranoid in nature.
I don't know, one thing is quite obvious to anyone who've spend even an hr on this site, and that is its members are pretty serious about security. And there are varying degrees of that seriousness.
I have installed Avira Free 3 times on Windows 8 machines. Each time there was no option given to install Ask toolbar. At the same time the web guard was disabled. I have Avira Premium and yes there is Ask toolbar installation files. They sit there and don't do much so I don't see much problem with it. Of course I wish there was no Ask or Android crap on the premium.... For those who can't tolerate it there are other alternatives out there. Simply uninstall Avira.
Seems to me that it's just another case of sloppy programming... the files are installed, whether used or not, because nobody at Avira bothered to clean things up.
Really? Further to your nice advices, you will give my money back? Because Avira don't..... Note: When I bought the 2 year Premium licence, ask toolbar wasn't bundled with Avira installer. It was added later on. But I never asked if I wanted or not. Avira refuses a refund , Avira refuses to give me the right to uninstall the toolbar. Very nice policy indeed...........
Funnily, people don't choose this simple option. Instead, they like to rant and rave over and over against Avira. Competition
Apart from the personal insults, do you have something useful to say? Both of you. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=2240648&postcount=370 .
