Getting right on it. I always wanted Ask.com to redirect me to their suggested searches.

    Not works on latest versions.

Remove the current version, run the registry fix first, reboot, then from filehippo download and install an earlier version (13.0.0.2...)

I thought both block malicious website dont they? Never used Avira's Web protection but K9 blocks everything with a hint of malware on it.

Re read my post #304 above.
K9 its a parental control filter, similar to Avira's SocialShield.

Avira's Web Protection it's totally different.

If I might ask, then what's the difference of those two with DNS filters like Norton DNS or OpenDNS?

You can't read the description there?

No, I mean in terms of functionality. Wouldn't DNS filters can be used for the same thing? Well, installed parental filters have more features, but the core function is to block access to certain websites right? o_O

A URL Blocker and Http Scanner is not the same thing, the Http Scanner scans website content in real-time, while the other will show a "block page" if it's black listed saying the site contains malware or other stuff...

So I think I can safely assume that K9 is similar to a DNS filter while Avira's webshield is similar to Bitdefender TrafficLight, in terms of functionality. Thanks...

BTW, you can name everything as you wish.

Just I mentioned the official name which the maker gave to his product and that name is:
"Avira's Web Protection" (formerly known as Avira's WebGuard).

Web filters have better detection ratio than DNS.
K9 has lots of categories you can choose to block, including malware/phishing/suspicious pages.

I don't think it's a right comparison. Unless Social Shield can disconnect websites that install adware/malware and phishing sites as well.
But thank you for the link explaining Avira's Web Guard. For me K9 will do the job. Paying $40 a year for just WebGuard protection seems pointless especially that other junk is still going to be there.

$17 a year is tempting and I may consider it in the future when they remove other junk from Avira or when I get fed up with K9 a gain.
How often do you get this deal?

Okay got myself a 1 year license $19.99. Got rid of K9 before it gave me a headache. Any custom configuration changes that I should consider or should I run default settings?
