You're lucky. I'm on a 256kb speed and thinking of using EAM7! Now don't laugh. I can do it. Just gonna have to fill myself with courage(not the cowardly dog!). Have some push-ups and perform some yoga. And I should be ready to take on EAM.

According to Fabian in the earlier post, EAM has shed some baby fat now that it's on a strict BD diet!

In my experience around 8 - 10 MB.

You don't understand: That is the way IKARUS handled things and is one of the reasons we switched to BitDefender. BitDefender no longer requires full database updates if you missed too many updates. Even after one month of updates the amount of signatures to be updated didn't exceed 25 MB in my testing during development.

That was exactly my concern when i learned of their shift to BD. I did try version some time back and it was light on system and price is pretty reasonable as well in INR.

Actually EAM 7 is lighter. Only the installer is huge due to large BD databases. The daily updates are small and no more whole database downloading if missed by a couple of days. Once installed it runs smooth and eats less bandwidth.:)

I left EAM because of the larger update downloads even if you missed the updates for a couple of days. Now i am happy to try EAM 7.Which folder should we exclude from Shadow defender so that the daily signature updates are saved in Shadow mode?Does the daily signature updates make changes to the registry? Is updating EAM out of shadow mode the only solution?

It is best to exclude the entire Emsisoft Anti-Malware installation folder including all sub folders. Otherwise blacklists, quarantine, configurations, and logs are rolled back on each restart as well.

Fabian, are you suggesting EAM updates will survive an Shadow Mode reboot as a result of simply excluding folders?

Previous experience has suggested most AV's also change registry entries during update. Even if that is just the date of last update. These don't survive the reboot and have caused integrity issues (the applications last update flag and defs don't match by way of example) with other AV's I've tried using the excludes files/folder route with SD.

    Thanks

They do. We changed the configuration storage system a while ago to use INI files instead of registry entries to store these information directly within the Emsisoft Anti-Malware folder for exactly that reason. There is some information stored in the registry, but those settings are pretty much static data (like the uninstall entry for example) and don't change on update. So if you run the setup with Shadow Defender disabled and then exclude the Emsisoft Anti-Malware folder, everything will work just fine.

Whoa! I thought EAM was supposed to download 1 to 3 mb daily updates. And around 8 to 10mb if missed by 6 or 7 or even a month.

EAM has not been updated for about 8 hours. And now it's downloading 7291kb.

What is happening? Fabian? A little explanation might calm this poor user and have a peace of mind!

The amount of signatures downloaded can get bigger if older files are touched (for example because false positives are removed). Otherwise it would be helpful if you could post the update log of the 8 MB update.

Sad to know that Ikarus engine has been replaced by Bitdefender. Not that I dislike bitdefender but there are other on-demand alternative that uses it. I liked Ikarus... :'(
Anyway the good part is that now it will not re-download all the signatures if not updates in a week.:thumb:

I've not read the entire thread so I apologize in advance if this question has already been asked/answered but does this version of Emsi still use Mamutu? Is the BitDefender B-have component part of Emsi now?

I think that Bitdefender is a good alternative as a replacement of Ikarus, it has great detections, the only downside is that it's the most licensed engine out there. :D

EAM v7 uses and will uses only BD engines and signatures nothing else, its BB (Mamutu) is quite solid, no need the one of BD.

B-HAVE is a behavioral heuristics emulator , I think it is included in the engine.
    It isnt comparable to Mamutu.
