How big are definition updates for EAM? EEK updates are usually quite big (20-150 MB).

Just got it after it updated a few minutes ago. But I had to turn back on my surf protection and the behavior blocker. Did anyone else have to do this?

It's 1-3 mb daily. The introduction of BD engine with it's huge definition database could be the cause. But Emsisoft should do something. I mean if EAM is not updated for 3 or 4 days you would have to download huge databases.:(

What is new in Emsisoft Anti-Malware 7.0.0.10 :
    * Completely new second scan engine from BitDefender (B) with even more efficient scans and greater detection rate.
    * Significantly less false alerts as they were usually caused by the former second scan engine.
    * Improved first scan engine (A) now runs faster than ever.
    * New performance settings for experts to configure the CPU use of the scanner.
    * Significantly better real-time protection performance. The active guard does not slow down your computer.
    * Optimized malware cleaning to be able to restore registry entries that were affected by malware.
    * Improved surf protection to block malware-, phishing- and privacy risk websites with a brand new and more frequently updated database (every hour).
    * Faster online updates via smaller incremental downloads. This means hourly updates are ready for use without delay.

That's absolutely not cool. And if you want Emsisoft Internet Security Pack you gotta add another 30 mb for the OA. A whooping 230+ mb.

Isn't that misleading? I mean before version 7 daily updates were between 1 and 3mb. It's still between 1 and 3 mb. How is it smaller incremental downloads?:doubt:
And why does clicking on download opens a link to softpedia eam download webpage? It always used to open the download window when clicked on the download button on emsisoft.

Just ran a smart scan which is the one I mainly use and it seems a little bit faster than the previous version. Also according to Emsisoft Surf Protection now relies on a brand new database that detects malware and phishing sites even earlier and causes fewer false alerts. Anyone know what database they are now using? I'm pretty sure this was their previous database.

Also is this database really better?
    Thanks.

They are using their own in house maintained lists now.
As for being better, guess over time we will tell.
It is after all, early days still ;)

I have 2 more PC to update and while updating my laptop, which also uses Online Armor Premium, it crashed during the update. After it restarted Anti-Malware 7 was installed but it forgot my key and I had to go through all the initial installation steps. Running a smart scan now on this laptop. Hopefully there will be no other issues.

    [UPDATE]
There were no other issues with my laptop, and my old desktop updated with no issues.

197mb to download is ridiculous, not to mention the constant big updates...
My internet speed is around 1mb... Nope. EAM7 is not for me :)

When do you think they will update Emsisoft Emergency Kit with the new Bitdefender scan engine?

Re: What is your security setup these days?

EEK updates are big because EEK is usually updated less frequently by the user than EAM, primarily because the user has to update it manually. Due to the way the IKARUS update works internally the differential update grow in size very quickly if you missed one of the intermediate updates.

Actually you will download a lot less if you missed updates for 3 or 4 days now. With IKARUS if you missed 50 updates it would just download everything again (~ 80 MB). Even if you just missed a day or two updates usually reached sizes of 10 - 20 MB.

If you update daily, it may have been just 1 - 3 MB daily as well. But users usually don't update daily. Often they don't turn on they computer at the weekend for example. And if you were unlucky that means downloading a 80 MB package on Monday which is significantly more.

In the first 3 days we usually have co-operations with download partners. This has been the case for at least the last 3 or 4 major releases. You can still download everything from our servers if you want to, as the URLs don't change:

    http://download1.emsisoft.com/EmsisoftAntiMalwareSetup.exe

Keep in mind though that these servers do provide the online updates as well. So they are hammered pretty hard right now. That is why we usually link to download partners for the first few days to lessen the load on our infrastructure :).

That depends on whether or not any bugs are found that we need to fix. If not EEK should be updated rather quickly.

How much exactly will now be downloaded if I miss updates for 3 or 4 days?

May I suggest to extend the time period to 2 weeks before EAM tries to download the whole database?
