    Hi Longboard

I have used Image for Windows to image with Rollback installed. No apparent problems although I didn't measure any times. Image seemed fine, but unlike Chris I didn't attempt a restore.

On your question about multiple reinstalls, I have done this quite a few times, with no problems what so ever. When you install you just have to be careful to select what you want your system to be like when you uninstall.

Since I use Rollback like you do, mainly for backup type protection rather than to maintain several system configurations, and since I generally only image after a significant system change, I started uninstalling Rollback and taking an image. I do this in part because I reinstall FDISR, and refresh an archive I can use for backup. That done, I uninstall FDISR, and reinstall Rollback. A little more time yes, but the beauty of the FDISR image for disaster recovery purposes, is I can test it without having to overwrite my system with the risk involved. It's time vs safety, and I'd rather spend the time.

From what I'm lead to believe, the next version of RollBack (v8?) will be able to save snapshots to another (e.g., external) drive and will also provide it's own emergency boot-disk. Therefore, in addition to protecting the system drive as it does now, it will also provide protection in the event of a hard-crash, etc.

So those of us who are struggling with 3rd party disk-imaging solutions (wondering if they will even work when we attempt a full recovery), will no longer have to do that. RollBack will soon be a complete recovery solution! :thumb:

Does the new ti9 work with rollback rx, ie if I image with rollback on will the image contain rollback in a state that will immediately be usable on a new disk or restoration.
rollback rx is far superior to windows restore and is a most useful addition to ti9.

Looking forward to a definative answer.

Sounds good. I'm forced to wait longer, but it also has its advantages. :)

Rollback Rx is a separate product, not part of True Image.

I don't believe there is a definitive answer to your question... I am a user of both of these fine products and have pondered the same question. But I certainly won't risk attempting a full restore (at least not until I have to) in order to determine the answer!

thanks, I am aware that rollback is a seperate product, but they both have different uses, the question is, can they live together in perfect harmony with the new versio which covers the mbr, as the old version did not work with it.

I am really waiting for it as I don,t have any hardware recovery option at the moment.
Another benefit will be during updating your base line snapshot( when u loose all ur snapshots except one), so before base-line snapshot update, u might record all ur snapshots to a CD/ DVD and then go ahead.

No, I have no plans. Too many issues and not enough reason. Biggest advantage I can see is for guys developing code, cause they can reboot the VM without affecting their main machine. I can do what I want with Rollback. Also there is the licensing issue. Microsoft specifically states you need licenses for these extra machines.

Still downloading but I will try some linux OS( ubuntu etc) on it. Obviously as I can,t do dual boot with Rollback.

I will like to discuss some issues in RollbackRx.

First- The file synchronization system of Rollback needs improvement.
On the advanced settings tabs, it is selected with an option-- Keep theses Files or Folder unchanged when restoring system to another snapshot, while infact this is not the case. I will explain it by one example.
Suppose I am in a snapshot ( say snapshot 4) and I have a folder named D( on my system) which has two files named a and b. I put this folder A in synchronization option.
Now suppose I restore my system to another snapshot( say snapshot 2). This snapshot 2 also has Folder D( but folder D in this snapshot has 3 files named x, y, and z). Now I restore to snapshot 2 and after completion of synchronization by Roillback, I open Folder D. Acc to description- Keep theses Files or Folder unchanged when restoring system to another snapshot - it should have only two files a and b but instead it will contain five files, two from snapshot 4( a and b_) and three from snapshot 2( x, y and Z).

Another thing I noted. I have put a dial up monitor on my PC that calculates the dial up usage time and bill accordingly and saves it in a Statistics file that shows all the connections made via dial up with there days/timings and billing in detail. I put this file in Rollbackfor synchronization. I restored my system to a one month older snapshot and after synchronization when I opened the file it was showing the data of one month old snapshot. Current data could not be copied to old snapshot. I don.t know what is the reason.

I think there should be two options in synchronization.

1- Keep sysnchronized files unchanged at all( keep them in the state of pre-restore snapshot-- I mean if u restore from snapshot A to B, synchronized files will remain as they were in snapshot A.

2- Sum up the synchronized files-- Suppose u go from snapshot A to B, synchronization will sum up the files from A nad B( u will find files from both snapshots A and B together except the common one). Infact Rollback this is the option that is executed by Rolback currently.

    Second-
Speed of synchronization is slow as well. It will be really nice if this speed can be incraesed.

Thirdly, there is another issue. When u click the option Reset Base Line- after that u have to click Restart only once and that’s it, you will loose all your snapshots. I mean there does not seem to be a confirmation pop up for this action( though I am not sure exactly). Reset Base line is a pretty Big Descision that must be confirmed. Imagine if u click twice by mistake-- yes infact yesterday I was in a bit hurry to restore my system and instead of clicking Restore System, I clicked Reset Baseline, imagine if I had not realized my mistake! I was just one click away from deleting all my snapshots! Windows confirms all delete actions by default, so should be done by Rollback.
Same is true for Update Baseline option.

I will like to know ur thoughts.

    Hi Aigle

I don't use synchronization so I can't comment on 1 and 2. As far as no. 3, it is a trade off between saving you from mistakes and annoying you with popups. I know when you do a restore from back up in Quickbooks it first asks for a confirmation, and then pops up another box that actually makes you type the word yes before continuing. One lesson I learned years ago was when working with programs like Rollback, First Defense, and restore(read write over) that at each step I stop, pause and make sure I am really doing what I want. Not bothering with this usually costs. With Rollback you have to be careful when you uninstall it. I literally do each step and then take my hands off keyboard and mouse, look at what I am doing and then do the next step. Many times it has saved me from myself.

OK let me try to understand.

    Are you saying:

    1. You have a folder named "a" chose to synch in your current snapshot and that folder contains a file called sample.exe
    2. You choose to restore a previous snapshot that has also a folder "a" with example.exe
    3. You want now for "a" to only contain sample.exe and not both files?

    Thanks,

    Chris

The other way round. It contains both sample.exe and example.exe.

So far I have not ben able to make a working image with terabyte IFD. This would be better than IFW so there is no reasone trying IFW to accomplish it. I am still talking to Terabyte regarding this.

    :)

You lose snapshots. I'm not sure about registration issues as I started using the demo to test other wise I have to keep having HDS rest my licenses.

If you like it as is keep it. If you like an older snapshot use it :)

    Thanks,

    Chris

    thanks pvsurfer.
I trust that they both play happily together otherwise?
I have also written off to rollback rx support but have not had an answer yet, will post up if one arrives.

It contains both. I want it to contain only pre-restore file(sample.exe). Infact it will be a good idea to have both options available. Pls if u don,t mind read my post againg, I have tried to make my point clear but to understand it fully, u might have to do it yourself.

And still there is one more important issue I mentioned, on some tyoe of files synchronization just fails. See this--

That's correct... I haven't had any conflicts running both products. I continue to create TI images with Rollback installed (all of which verify successfully), but as previously stated I have not attempted a TI restore during that time.
On the other hand, performing Rollback restores (with TI installed) are a piece of cake.

Btw, this thread probably belongs in the Software & Services section (where Rollback Rx topics are discussed).
