Never had the need to use a watermark. :)

You only need it to protect your photos and images by adding a translucent copyright
watermark over them to identify them as your own work. ;)

    from the beginning?
wow! you are very patient! :)

well, keep on with the version that suits you best
and whenever you feel that you are ready for a new version
you go for it. Keep in mind that whichever version we use,
it is always our imagination that truly counts. ;)

Yes, there are two ways of using the watermark.
One consist of registering your pictures at http://www.digimarc.com/register
BUT you must pay for that. It is pretty expensive, for the full protection of
    your pictures it costs 499$ for 5000 picutes, 199$ for 3000 pictures,and 79$
for 1000 picures. See details here:

    pricing

but there is a more affordable solution for non-professional PSP users
or any graphic program users. It is very simple, you just have to create
your own watermark yourself. You do it by adding a transparent layer with your name in your picture. You can save 2 copies of your best creation, one with a watermark to be displayed on the net, and one with no watermark at all... You can keep a fresh version of your picture in a personal folder.
The bigger the watermark on your picture the lesser the chance that someone
will take it. Here is one I made tonight in order to show you.
I will post a tutorial on watermarks after

Easy Way to Integrate a Watermark to a Picture: :)

Here are the main steps to include your own watermark in a picture.

    1. Open a new picture of 200x100 pixels in PSP,
    and Fill background with white.

    2. Go to your Colour Palette, set the foreground colour to black
and the background colour to none or no colour at all.

    3. Go to the Tools Palette > Preset Tools, choose the ellipse from the Preset Shapes. I had these settings:

    Shape: Ellipse
    Style: straight line
    Width: 10

    ...see screenshot

    4. Draw an ellipse in the center of your picture,
be careful not to draw on the borders.

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

    5. Choose a font of your choice with floating and antialias
checkmarked. Set the Font size to 24, style Bold, Stroke Width was set to 2.00 in my case.

    6. Write your text in the middle of the ellipse....

    7. Go to Selections > select none or deselect

    ...see screenshot

then go to post 1654 ;)

Re: Paint Shop Pro & PhotoFiltre Talk

    8. In the Tool Palette, choose the Magic Wand, apply these settings: Mode:Replace RGB Value, Tolerance:90, Feathering:0,
    and anti-alias:checkmarked.

9.With the Magic Wand, Select the background of the picture outside the ellipse.

    10. Go to Selections > Invert

    11. Go to the Menu bar > Edit > Copy

    13. Open the picture in which you want to paste your watermark
and paste your watermark in it, Go to Edit and choose Paste as a new layer.

    14. Once it is pasted in the new image, you can resize the
watermark if you want, you go to the menu > Image > Resize >
in mine I resized it to 50% but some prefer to put a bigger watermark for more protection, The bigger the watermark,
the lesser the chance the picture will be stolen.
Careful: when you resize, leave "resize all layers" box empty.
In order to resize the watermark only. You can use the moving
tool in order to move the watermark in the picture. That's
the 4th tool in the Tools Palette.

    15. Now we will reduce the opacity of the watermark layer.
Go to the layers Palette, and click on "normal" to see the other
blending options, a window will pop up, choose "Soft Light"
if your picture is dark or "Hard Light" if your picture is pale.

    Method 2

...or instead of applying "soft light"

There is another way also of doing it, you keep it at "Normal"
but you reduce the opacity by moving the cursor to the left
until you're are satisfied with the result.

    16. Go to the Menu > Layers > Merge All visible layers.

    17. Save your picture containing the watermark as a .jpg

    18. Save your picture of the watermark as a .psp so you
will be able to use it for other pictures and you will be able to use it as a layer and reduce the opacity as much as you want
afterward. Yes, you can save it as a .jpg too but you will have
to convert it to a layer next time you open it in Paint Shop
Pro, it's better to do it now, eh? :D

I know this is a paintshop thread but perhaps someone knows of a plug-in that is able to convert a black and white photo to color - in a click.

    Embedded Watermark

...Using the Watermark Function in PSP

if you want more protection, you can also use the watermark function provided in Paint Shop Pro, it is easy to use and add even more protection but the picture won't be registered at Digimarc. What does this mean? Well, any user who will download your picture will be able to read that there is a watermark embeded in the picture provide he has P.S.P. or any graphic program that has a watermark reading function implimented in it BUT... that doesn't mean that will stop him/her using your picture and that being the case, you cannot take any legal action against that person if you are not registered at Digimarc...But fortunately, some people won't use it. ;)

Now this is the way you can put a watermark with P.S.P.

    1. Go to Image > Watermarking > Embed Watermark

...write a date BEFORE 2005 for the beginning of the copyright and 2005 as the ending year. First, I tried 2007 for the ending year, and it did not work. For Target Output, you can choose either Print or Monitor. I also checkmarked "Do not copy" and "Verify"....see screenshot ;)

    2. ...A "Verify" window will pop up. I cannot tell how the "Strenght" matters.

    3. To read your or any watermark, go to Image > Read watermark.
...if there is one embeded in it, you should see a window like this that will pop up.....And if there is no watermark in it, a different window will pop up and say that no watermark was found it the image.

As a test, open this picture in PSP, and see if you can read the watermark.
Go to Image > Read watermark.
    Hope this help. :)

Well done Sonya and thanx a lot for the nice roses! :)

...2 things Sonya...1. make sure that you paste your watermark as a new layer. So when you click on the watermark to select it, you go to Image and choose "Paste As New Layer" (Ctrl+L) 2. Once it is pasted in your roses picture, go to the Layer Palette and click on "Normal" then you will see a window popping up with all the different Blending Mode....choose "Soft Light" and 100% opacity. You can leave it to "Normal" instead of "Soft Light" but you will have to reduce the opacity to 30% (or about). Personally "Soft Light" is my favourite. This is what I used in your picture as a test. ;)
