I used the x64 .331 version for about 3 weeks on my test laptop with no ill effects. I have since restored my pre-.331 Acronis backup, then installed .325 again. You can never be too safe...

1.1.0.325 will stay on my Xp Home setup until it becomes unreliable, which has yet to happen.
SD has been rock solid sense I first installed it.

Well like everyone else I'd like an upgrade path and I would not doubt that 325 has been bypassed. This is why I went with Returnil in the first place, but that program is slow and buggy even though the mod will say otherwise, but he's the mod right.

I had this same issue with the new version, couldn't even uninstall through my test version of windows. It's like the program didn't exist.

For your curiosity... Yes I did test it few years ago, before I was using PowerShadow because the new version became bulky & resource hungry so I turn to SU cause it's lighter in resource usage.

The infos you get in incorrect, as for proof no I don't have it, sorry it's way too long for me to remember. The version I used is the last version of SU, you may ask how do I actually know it, it's simple, as what I said in the original post, I toy with lots of softwares probably more then a hundred a month, however I notice the problem in less then a month time:doubt: , in every session use of SU I install/uninstall all kinds of stuff, one day I found out there is JUNK left over in Program Files Folder, by that time I tried to redo the install/uninstall made in a clean VM, it's confirm SU has serious leakage, then I run a manual registry check I do found random junks that leftover by the softwares I've been toying around before. So the final action is uninstall SU turn back to PowerShadow, few years later after noticing the marvelous SD using it till now.:argh:

If you still want to use SU, use it at your own risk.:D

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the up to date discussion, SD was breach before in v1.1.0.2XX by 'modded dog trojan', it's unsure if it still work in SD1.1.0.3XX, so everyone using SD recommend use it together with a antivirus or anything that acts as basic protection.:thumb:

I've had SU on my old notebook since August 2005. I paid at the time 69$ for it which so far is 11.5 $ a year. I have never experienced junk leftover, infections etc, and for 2 years my wife used it who hasn't got a clue about malware.

You say "at your own risk" What risk? Just about any application has a risk factor, I can restore an image on my old notebook in 6 minutes which I have done many times for other reasons than SU.

The real problem is that SU has been abandoned because of piracy, now SD is following suit (piracy?), and that would be the second excellent virtualizer to disappear, alas...

Had the same issue only once, with v325 and Win7x64 on a friend's Dell XPS desktop. After installing SD it was bbsod on every reboot. No chance to get to the desktop, couldn't even go into safe mode so had to restore backup.

I have tested SD .325 myself and totally screw up my system so there it goes I can't use SD with SSD's and I'm not going to try any of the others such as Deep Freeze and so on! I installed a simple app like HashTab in Shadow Mode upon reboot it was still installed and most of my programs were messed up! Could not open Outlook 2010, FF and so on with many errors so I had to do a clean install of everything. So I will keep SD .325 on my older laptop if I need to test malware in a VM!:ouch::ouch::ouch::ouch: I don't want to go off topic but I wonder if I would have a problem with Acronis TI 2010? I have started a new thread here: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?p=1877834#post1877834

I've been installing, and uninstalling software in shadow mode for years, and have never found any left overs.

Oh, no. I do not even own an SSD. I was reading there was an issue with the Trim, and SD a few months back. I'm waiting until the price comes down on SSD's until I purchase one. The size of drives I use would cost way too much in an SSD at the current time. I would love to see external SSD's affordable in a 2TB capacity. I hear they last for ever or something like that. Not really forever, but in comparison to SATA, and ATA's.

I don't have an SSD to test myself but I'm gonna get one of those mega-fast OCZ PCI-E Revo drives when I build my new rig. You pair this with a decent Asus or DFI mobo and windows should fly! (waiting for the prices to go down a bit...).

btw, when in Shadow Mode, with every website I visit that features a f'*kin' flash clip the Adobe Flash player gives me prompts to install again and again and again! It has already been installed, so I select never to be asked again, commit changes, then reboot and it does it again. It only happens on shadow mode: when SM is off all sites play flash clips OK without prompts. It makes me want to do some serious damage to my computer!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's very good when used as a security protection but you have to remember to commit stuff.

these days i mainly use it as a souped up uninstaller. ;)

Thank you. I'm using it on all the time. No side effects.

I returned my image before installing it and installed the .325 version, because it has no chance. Now I am peaceful, also blocked his connection to the internet. :thumb:

The only time I don't run in Shadow Mode is when i'm installing new software or updating my OS. Everything else I have exceptions set for. I've been using it like this for years without any problems.

I use it on demand if I am not too sure about a site I want to access, and if one of my Grandchildren wants to play an on line game. Kid games on the internet are like walking in a mine field.

I used to run in shadow mode for years. Ever since I started using Sandboxie, I only use Shadow Defender occasionally and specifically at work when plugging in thumb drives from collaborators or when I'm testing configuration variables.

I used to think of SD as indispensable, nowadays Sandboxie is my first choice for everyday browsing mainly because it gives me some extra security with its restrictions settings and its very active developer (hopefully Tzuk is going to be around for a long while!).

I am using Sandboxie and Shadow Defender, one complements the other. Also I am not getting much changing my system.
