When I think of SD, I think of Proxomitron. While Tony may not be deceased, what he created truly is remarkable. The fact that so many carry on without him attests to this. What a great program, and even though it has not been updated, can still provide a layer of security that is top notch in all categories.

Heres hoping this thread keeps it alive.

    Sul.

You may wont to reread the thread description. This thread has nothing to do with Tony's status of being MIA. This thread is for those needing help with SD. There are Mods that visit this forum that work for SD other than Tony. Lets try to keep the thread on topic. This is for support only.

Saving Firefox booksmark while in protected mode.

Hi: I started using SD but find that when I am surfing and I want to save a link in Firefox I can't. Because I am in protected mode.

Is there an easier way to save without getting out of SD?

I assume you are referring to bookmarks? You can add a exception for those. Open Shadow Defender, and go to "Exclusion list". Then, using "Add folder" and "Add file" buttons, navigate to:
    C:\Users\<Windows login/user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile folder>.

Add exclusions for the folder "bookmarkbackups" and for the file "bookmarks"

"The Application Data folder is a hidden folder; to show hidden folders, open Windows Explorer and choose "Tools → Folder Options → View (tab) → Show hidden files and folders"."

For more information about other stuff you can exclude (extensions, history...) check this page about Firefox Profile folder: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox

    Hope this helps.

You only need to add the file place.sqlite to your exclusion list. Do not add the entire mozilla FF profile folder because some users experience a problem with all their browsers settings, and add-ons being reset after rebooting from shadow mode. So unless you want to possibly deal with reinstalling your add-ons, and reconfiguring your personal browser settings then avoid adding the entire folder. What OS are you using? If you could tell me which OS you are using I could tell you the exact location of places.sqlite. Its located in the following directory for W7: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\. Also, as already asked by AlexC; do you know how to make hidden files & folders visible? You want be able to navigate to the directory without doing so because it is hidden as already stated.

First, my English sucks so have a little patience.
I'm having a serious problem with SD.
Every time I connect a USB drive, after a while it freezes the computer altogether.
Only thing I can do is shut it down forcibly.
I do not know what else to do then please help me.
    Thanks

have you tried removing your USB drive from SD protection?
usually, only your OS drive needs to be protected.

I had the same problem with freezing, but it happened even without connecting a USB drive. :(

In my case it had to do with a specific version of Shadow Defender: 1.1.0.325.
I changed back to version 1.1.0.320 and then all was o.k. ---> No more freezing.

So you may also try an older version of SD.
You can find links to all relevant versions of SD here:
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1704180&postcount=12

(PS: This had happened with Windows XP. In the meantime I changed to Windows 7, but I kept SD version 1.1.0.320 as it does its work fine.)

Many people seem to be perfectly happy using Shadow Defender and report no bugs but I found that there were glitches in certain versions that happened occasionaly, one problem was other software on my pc becoming unregistered (Nero for example) and corruptions in certain circumstances.
The one that I personally find the most stable is Shadow Defender 1.1.0.278
(but that might just be me, so don't rely on it) There were bugs and glitches right into SD1.1.0.325 (there were two releases, one quick update after bug found) and problems with 1.1.0.326

    best wishes

    Patrick (Shadow Defender Global Moderator)

Apologies to those who can't use the Shadow Defender forum, we were inundated with spam and porn which was extremely time consuming and frustrating (with no admin access to remove membership) (global mods can only ban) and (as a last resort) I tried to use a large ban list but there is a bug in phpbb that chokes the forum and you get to only a white page, (I was temporarily locked out).
I've now managed to access the forum as global mod but it wont allow me to reverse the ip bans list and presents only a white page. So without Tony to manually change it and lacking that ability myself we are stuck.

I had the 'There Is No Disk in the Drive' on occasion which was fixed by version 1.1.0.278 but never updated past version 1.1.0.320 which is stable for me. Thanks for posting...I suggest users grab what they want from above now.

I use 1.1.0.325. I am not affected by the USB freezing problem reported above. I have several external drives connected to some of my PC's, and they all have SD on them so I'm not sure why I have never experienced the USB problem reported above. Maybe it is something specific to that person's machine. I'm always running in shadow mode except when I update windows or install a new program. The only issue I have ever experienced was with Firefox. If i add an exception to Firefox to save my bookmarks I found that I would loose all my browser settings, and extensions after rebooting from shadow mode. I was adding the entire Firefox profile folder as an exception. Instead of adding the entire profile folder as an exception I only add places.sqlite now as an eception, and I never had that problem again. It could have been a Firefox problem instead of an SD problem. To answer the question about V1.1.0.325 being a buggy build. No, I do not think it is a buggy build considering I'm running it on 6 PC's without any problems. The only bug I can remember reading about that was being addressed before Tony went MIA was slow data transfer rates while committing data while in Shadow Mode, but I believe that may have been fixed in the last build.

marcelhata, what version of SD are you using, and what OS are you using? Also, what kind of USB device are you connecting that is freezing your PC? Does it happen when trying to run the USB device in Shadow Mode? What other security software are you using in real-time?

I really like Shadow Defender. But there's an issue with it that I've never been able to get resolved. SD seems to have an issue with Opera profiles. It messes up my IRC chat rooms, and even my bookmarks, despite the fact that the entire opera profile directory has been excluded.
