What are the "Must Have" extensions for Firefox

I haven't tried this, but here's a restartless add-on that seems to combine the location and search bars and provide some enhanced "privacy" functionality:

Well, I tried it but it maybe that I've tweaked Fx to such an extent that it (the add-on) never stood a chance.

Anyway, I'm content with vanilla search from the url bar.

 

Does it work like Omnibar?

Yet another false positive by Malwarebytes IP Blocking. Looks interesting and useful though.

 

(I have Norton DNS which didn't scream at me.)

The page does a bit of browser-sniffing and the first preference is tailored to your browser. So going with Aurora or Chrome will mentioned accordingly. I've still to see whether it makes a material difference or is just cosmetic.

 

Okay, the information in this site relates to Fx 3 and was updated 08/01/2010.

More generally, a user.js file is really a good idea - I've been using it for a long time. If you have specific settings which are important for you and you have to create a new profile (for whatever reason), just copy that file with your settings to the new profile directory - ready!

 

A discussion is in progress over at the AdBlock Plus forum which is a bit intriguing, if not puzzling. I wonder what the future holds for this extension.

Well, if just the user.js file is sufficient, that's great. I need more than that. I have important information in localstore.rdf and stylish.sqlite as well. Hence backing up the entire profile as frequently as convenient may not be a bad idea. Folks more familiar with the contents of the profile folder may prefer backing up just a subset of files.

I came across yet another "blocker" called, "Yet another remove it permanently".

Not giving up so easily, I googled and found this:

I get the impression that Yarip is more of a content hider and will prevent display but not download. In other words, there maybe no saving of bandwidth. (But this impression could be totally wrong since there are several options involving terms I've never heard of.)

But it has a convenient point-and-click mode that may appeal to some users.

I tried it on Fx 4.0.1 portable. It's block-as-you-go. There aren't any pre-made blocking lists that I know of. If you choose the remember option, you won't have to block the same element the next time you visit the same site.

I didn't try on Aurora since I've got that already set up with Privoxy, Karma Blocker, and a bunch of CSS rules.

It works with a keyboard shortcut like F11. Also can get in the way of Ctrl shortcuts. I prefer mouse-over.

Did used to have TinyURL Generator with Firefox 3.
But it wasn't available for Firefox 4 when it first came out.
Finally got this add-on back about a month ago... Still Love It!





* IdentFavIcon New Today!
My biggest pet hate is when a website doesn't have a Favicon - & - You get that horrid little white page icon instead.
This add-on makes that problem... No Problem!



* Undo Closed Tabs Button New Today!
One of my biggest niggles is when I've just closed a couple of Tabs - & - Seconds later realise that I want them back again.
This add-on solves that niggle... Perfectly!

i'm not a big addon fan but 2 i use are Autohide Bookmarks, which hides the Bookmark Bar, and Fire Gestures.

i tried a few mouse gestures addons but i settled on Fire Gestures because i thought it was the easiest to use and i can export and restore my settings.

 

Just having 2 add-on. Too much will make browser start up longer,in my experiences.

Are things clearer now? I'm happy I use Privoxy and have got the hang of Karma Blocker (at a very elementary level). I haven't been using ABP for about a month without any problem.
