never detected a PUP in my usage but I'm careful so..... Mind you I did enable all the settings in the options to detect against harmful apps/games/jokes but it never caught anything. Still, I think it's great that it doesn't have an aggressive HTTP scanner like some other AVs which slow down your internet
Anything new in version 15 compared to 14? Is it worth re-installing Avira? I guess detection wise there wouldn't be any difference...
Additional sensors for Behavior-based Detection have been implemented Changelog for 15.0.8.624 [Update 8]= http://www.avira.com/en/support-for-home-knowledgebase-detail/kbid/1699 Changelog for 15.0.8.644= Only Avira knows......... ----------------- Just install 15 on top of 14 (install in "update" mode).
doing a full system scan, still @ 4% after 30 mins.......with any other AV the full scan would have been finished by now....... isn't it time they improve the speed of their snail scanner?? BTW, does Avira do any form of whitelisting or would it still scan every file upon access again?
Hi Mortal Raptor, Product updates for Avira Antivirus (Windows) is released step by step over the automatic update, every user of Avira Free/ Pro Antivirus 2015 receives the build 15.0.8 till the end of the rollout period. The Avira On-Demand scanner using the full system scan profile does every time a scan over all files in deep. For comparison of different scanners it is important to use the same parameters like scanned file types, archives, archives recursion depth, following symbolic links, heuristic level etc. The descriptions of the download links are always updated at the end of the rollout.
So the actual downloaded version is totally different from the description! http://www.avira.com/en/download/product/avira-antivirus-pro actual installer for = Version: 14.0.8.644 description for = Version: 14.0.7.468 Nice, this is the Avira's way of thinking! also here: Just installed it, even though it says v 14 on the site, it actually installed Avira Antivirus Pro 15.0.844 ---------------------------- ....and the chaneglogs too? http://www.avira.com/de/support-for-home-knowledgebase-detail/kbid/1699 http://www.avira.com/en/support-for-home-knowledgebase-detail/kbid/1699 http://www.avira.com/de/support-for-home-latest-news
Thanks, it's good to know there is real improvement. I was under the impression that behaviour was only for 32 bit systems though, under proactiv... I'm not in a hurry, I'll wait for the automatic update...
Thanks cmhelper, Avira is one of the lightest AVs I have used that's why I use it and have bought a 3 year license but why is its on demand scanner the slowest amongst all AVs I've tested? it takes like 4 to 5 times the time of all other AVs which include Kaspersky, NOD32, Emsisoft Anti-Malware, Trend Micro AntiVirus, F-Secure AntiVirus?
Thanks! Some months ago, I had it on my Uncle PC, and it had some PUP's installed after that, so it seems that this is still an issue with Avira... And I have all the options enabled on it...
Same here, I wish they would improve that it would make it perfect really. Also, when trying to add exclusions, it does not show the system hidden files unless you manually go to your folder options and untick the "hide system hidden files" then it would show them. I suggested to them on Facebook and Twitter and their suggestions page to make it show system hidden files like most big name AVs do and they said it's a great idea actually, but even after 6 months, they didn't implement it. Guess this product is use it as is and we don't give a crap about what customers suggest or think. With that said, I still find it the best for me as it has very light impact on my system and thank God, no stupid HTTP scanner to slow down my internet
You can't compare the ondemand scanning speed with Kaspersky,NOD32 etc. those having an scanning cache feature/technology and enable by default to speedup the scanning process, but Avira didn't have this type feature if you have to compare, please turn off all the scanning cache! otherwise is just an un-fair competition Also after some update already, avira scanner has adding the Dynamic Heuristic and scanning the archive more deeply... (just compare old vesion v10/v9/v8 and current v14/v15)
But I'm talking even on the first / initial full system scan. How would any cache help here? And why wouldn't Avira implement something like this to speed up scans or some form of whitelisting? It is a top notch AV after all
Someone already suggested, this type of feature should implement to Avira https://avira.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Cacheing-To-Shorten-Scan-Times/30560-26744 I don't know what reason why they didn't implement any technology to speedup the scanning speed... Original, they introduce a "Optimize Scan" Technology since version 9 to speedup the scanning process on multi-core processor. However this technology not having any update until now. Some details and benchmark about that feature Avira Tech blog (Thanks for Archive.org): https://web.archive.org/web/2013122...9/02/13/optimized-scan-in-avira-antivir-9/en/ IO Improve on 8.2(legacy) engine https://web.archive.org/web/2012060...ce-improvements-–-some-details-on-file-io/en/ As this article said,it only add +1 single thread on scanning process It could increase a bit more thread on our modern cpu
I did at the time where rumors were saying that even the Antivirus Pro will have the bloatware like Dropbox integration, Driver updater, registry clearner, etc. the perfect tools to destroy a properly working system..... then time passed by, used many AVs, got disappointed by many.... so I figured I'd give it another go and to my surprise, only the IS includes the bloatware not the AV Pro......so...... I have a friend who purchased a 5 user license thinking that's for 5 PCs, when he found out that 5 users is 3 computers per user which means it's actually for 15 computers, he sent me an invitation code to use it so now I have my 1 user / 3 year license it is 3 machines I can install it on or 5 machines?
having the issue again with large files not completing properly. like a 1gb file will stop anywhere before 1gb and say its completed. i know they fixed this once before but im having this happen again. reported already. i know its avira because if i disable the web shield the files finish fine
My problem with Avira is that its slowdown my boot to a crawl, I dont have this problem with any antivirus lately. I am not blaming Avira, it simple doesnt play well with my machine.
Same, but it is bearable if you switch to Stealth Boot, so it loads before the Windows screens load up, "preparing desktop" etc...
