drweb does 'ok' on this one, shame its not the same at the moment on reputable tests.

Dr Web is doing great indeed.
Well done. I like this test

    Hi!

These tests haven't got objective results, because on virustotal a lot of damaged files are uploaded. I had got one sample of Win32/Nuwar and I tested that on virustotal. Eight antiviruses detect malware, but file was corrupted, so there wasn't any risk. There is important if antivirus detects only functional malware. Finally, I don't see something about false positives.

They should put in an extra button alongside of Detection, Heuristics, Suspicious and Pack/Crypt.

Name it something like "Managed to do SFA" and throw in some decent security apps like Sandboxie, Defensewall, Geswall, Safespace and Returnil to name a few.:D

    Haha
You lost your trust in Dr Web? :p

These guys are real hard core virus junks. I trust this test. Beautifull thing is that they so the same test each month

But there are too many tests these days, I agree

wow i never thought much of avg.. i mean they are a decent all around product but have never realy stood out in the testing.. wonder how well they will do next month maybe this was a good test for them since last month they did pretty good but no where near what they did this time

suprisingly kaspersky did a lot worse this time than i would have guessed..

could someone post some info on the actual test/testers.

how reliable, as they dont really match av-comp/av-test.

AVG AV + AVG AS = AVGAM really makes a difference. It has taken AVG out of the ranks of the "also rans."

drweb always does well in 'these tests' but poor in all the others, so i 'have to' question the test itself.

however, its still nice to see drweb do well in a test. :p

so now i wonder, how would drweb + prevx do? ;)

in this test, prevx1 (why not 2.0?) detects more than avast, norton, mcafee, microsoft and a few more.

    nobody knows, but still...... curious.

It seems like AVG is doing well enough to acquired a company called: Exploit Prevention Labs.

henryg, you left out a word that makes your post ambiguous.

    Grisoft bought the other company.

I still wonder if AVG Pro or Anti-Malware was used. Did anyone see where it may say this?

i didnt mean as a company i mean in testing they always do pretty deent but never top out the tests i dont think ive seen that in a long time if ever...im sure as a company they are fine as there are a lot of avg users out there..if they keep that pace up thought they may be the next one to beat..im just suprised to see such a large junp from the last tests for them.. not usually the norm unless they used a new verson or a updated program

Expected results, taking into account the testing method.

i wouldn't say expected results, but yeah.... have to question the test.

50+ samples taken from VirusTotal, and checked across a selection of AV programs.

    honestly, anyone could do this.

    Not so.
50+ samples taken from infected machines, and checked on VirusTotal.

how are the samples checked, virustotal? Hardly conclusive

Its too small of a sample and would be biased against market leaders as they would be the most likely AV's in use on a random selection of machines. Essentially its a selection of what the market leaders missed.

thought id have a go, quickly put together, but you get the picture.

with some valid malware from my collection ;) (all types)

@IBK :D ... worth a go eh? but not your suggestion... i choose virscan instead of virustotal :D

    enjoy

Drweb + prevx would score 50 aswell together, as the misses were on different files ;)

just shows how easy these kind of tests are.

note: one file undetected by drweb, IS detected by drweb on my computer, so its not 100% effective.
