TY, J_L for suggestion on rescue disks. I will investigate those.

Downloaded free trial of HMP last July 2010 b/c of redirect virus which it eliminated immediately. Bought the product at the end of 30 days. It has since several times got rid of malware attacks, rootkits and all, in the middle of popups and during random scans. I love HMP.

Q: Is BETA 126 an update from Build 125, or is it a different program?

ETA: Just discovered I have BETA 126 and Build 125 on my machine. BETA 126 has my name and license exp. date on it, as well.

I thought we might have heard something about the 30 day trial, but maybe they are working on this issue.

We will no doubt here from erik very soon on this matter.

Hitman Pro has just been updated to build 126, I am using a commercial license so I cannot tell if the trial issue has been resolved in the new build, can anyone confirm?

Unfortunately, no effect on the license expiration issue. Both mine and my wife's each show 9 days left. :(

To add to the mystery, I saw Erik was here about half an hour ago but left without adding anything to the issue.:shifty:

Probably watched too many westerns as a kid and was afraid of the lynch mob!
(I wonder how those shows come across in Dutch? :p )

I guess us beta testers/freeloaders are no longer wanted/required. ;) I have noticed Erik logging in to Wilders, and have wondered why he has not responded to recent posts. His silence is deafening. :D

My unpaid license has updated to 3.5.9 build 126, but it shows that I only have 8 days left.

    No longer applicable?

    3. Free License
The "Free License" permits you to use one copy of the Software solely for personal, non-commercial purposes (service desks, computer repair centers and other businesses that serve home users are excluded from this restriction). The Free License is issued once and is valid for 30 days.

...The abovementioned is quoted from an EULA "SURFRIGHT SOFTWARE LICENSE TERMS 1.1", "HITMAN PRO 3"

My paid license just updated to 126, so my question is answered.

HMP saved me many times over the past year just by running when antimalware would popup, and on starts sometimes found Trojans. Program well worth the $$ for me.

An EWS scan, just out of curiousity, running the beta version, which BTW, did not update to the release version. ;)

Good for you...looks my days of a free ride are over.:D

Not to worry...since I have been using it, I have never needed to require the cleaning function of a license. :D

    Free License woes

First of all, please accept my apologies for the (deafening) silence regarding the Free License issue. I wasn't sure how to respond and I first talked to the team about how we are going to address this.

    The problem
In build 125 of Hitman Pro we added a feature that allows embedding a product key in the binary (for corporate/enterprise users). An embedded key is automatically activated for these binaries. In order for this to work, we made a few changes in the licensing module. But as you've seen, it also introduced a bug. The new feature auto activates the Free License for the standard binary inadvertently!

    Build 126
Yesterday’s build 126 was a stability release with fixes from Winqual (this is where the Windows Error Reporting (WER) and Crash Data end up). Build 126 does not yet contain a fix for the Free License bug, but rest assured, the Free License bug will be fixed in build 127.

    Compensation
Many of you run the inactivated version and these all got activated due to the bug (trial started). Problem is though, we cannot revert the Free License (it’s a database back-end thing)
In the meantime, if you run into malware, send me a PM and I will give you a free 30-day license to remove the malware.

    Trial software
We never wanted Hitman Pro to run as regular trial software. The scan is always free: only malware removal requires a license. In our opinion this should always be the start of the trial, unlike most trial software.

We are sorry for the inconvenience and we hope for your understanding.

No worries Erik. These things happen.

Probably a silly question but please reassure me that once the licence has expired we’ll still be able to use the scanner as before. Correct?
