Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

I tried Hitman Pro, but some things concern me:

    1. I downloaded and ran it, but it never updated itself before a scan, so how come? It should update to latest definition files but didn't.

    2. It scans too quick to be actually working, right?

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

    1. It doesnt need to update because Hitman Pro definitions stay in the cloud , so always up to date.

    2. Cloud antimalware + really good scan engine.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

When I run MalwareBytes for example, I always need to update the definition files. Why don't I need to do that with Hitman PRO? I don't understand what you mean when you say, "definitions stay in the cloud , so always up to date." Can you please elaborate?

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

The definitions get downloaded from the vendors to the Hitman Pro CLOUD SERVERS. NOT to your computer.

Meaning, when you are scanning you are using the definitions on the Cloud Servers and not on your computer.

You have a scanner client, the Cloud has the definitions:)

    Are you joking with me?

Are you saying that Hitman PRO on my laptop sends all the header information from every single file it's scanning on my hard drive to their servers, where it's analyzed and checked and then data sent back to my laptop indicating if it's infected or clean. Is this a scam? Have you all been tricked? lol

Not every file - it will upload any file it thinks that is "suspicious".

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

That is how a cloud scanner works: crawl your local drive and scan in the cloud (= servers attached to the internet).

Fingerprints of a suspicious file (either cryptographic hash or fuzzy hash) are sent to the server to see if the file is a known file. If not, then the file is uploaded (only PE-files are uploaded; data files like documents, images, music are NOT uploaded). Once uploaded the file is scanned in a VirusTotal way (scanning a file using multiple scanners in a few seconds). The result of the scan is attached to the fingerprint.

So if both user A and B have a common fingerprint, only A (or B) has to upload the file X. The more users, the less an individual has to upload. This is also why Hitman Pro is so fast (and the fact Hitman Pro has an embedded whitelist of common non-malicious files).

Note: Hitman Pro currently uses SHA-256 hashing for its fingerprints. This means that each scanned file gets represented by a 256-bit fingerprint (= 32 bytes). So the network load is low and your computer only has to calculate the hashes (= lightweight process).

This is not a scam

    Hello ericloman :)

Finally got around to installing: thank you very much.
:D Call me an early adopter if you want, LOL.

Just did a scan with latest and got some interesting FPs ;)
    Icesword.exe !!
    revosetup.exe
    FHS.exe
FDISR installer (And renamed versions of same) :D
    rootchk.exe

Lots of other little things picked up and dismissed :thumb:

and a couple of other older tools, some renamed tools etc

    Installed and updated smooth as..
    Nice implementation.
All in all, not too bad indeed.
Might have to reach into the wallet methinks.
    :) :)

    Pm'd the log file
    Thanks again

PS likely it's time to ditch some of those older tools anyway. :cautious:

We currently experiencing some issues with the handling of some FPs where historically submitted FPs reappeared in the cloud. We are working on it. It will be fixed today/tomorrow in our cloud.

    No probs here.

    I was impressed.
No FPs for Nirsoft tools, big plus right there. ;)

Most other 'scanners' get a lot more FPs here.
Had to move some apps and .exes off the disc to avoid persistent unpleasantnesses. !!
NIS is particularly a pita in that respect..auto removal etc..

HMP picked out a lot of apps: most passed 'in the cloud'
Heh: my little test bed for FPs. :)
    regards

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Cloud computing is the future and it's here now with Hitman Pro! Prevx does the same thing you have the client on your computer and all the signatures are on there severs "in the Cloud" which gives fast scan times and no signatures to download! And Prevx being one of HMP's partners was the first to do it this way since 2004! ;)
