Well I guess you're not running with full verification and expert mode then. :D Turn that on for maximum "protection" and come back later. :D

PCTFWP would prompt me on my System services (!) and well-known software like Secunia PSI and Opera. :gack:

That's a very solid setup. My tips would be: exchange ESET for some sandbox/policy based HIPS (COMODO Sandbox, SandboxIE, DefenseWall, etc.) and consider if MBAM (Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware) is slowing down your browsing too much with its IP blocking. It's IP blocking is VERY solid, but other users have reported a great reduce in browsing speed with it enabled. :)

For me I don't have a security setup at all. 99% of the time I use absolutely no real time protection of any kind. Also I never use any kind of script or ActiveX blocking software. I rely solely on the built in Windows 7 firewall to give me protection.

I do do occasional on demand scans with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware.

I install new software just about every day without ever checking to see if the software comes from a trusted source. Also I vist all manner of websites, even websites Google or Orca (FireFox based web browser) warn me against visiting. But I am careful about what websites want to install - I know to not click on the fake virus alert windows used to lure users into download rouge av software, and if for example a video website wants me to install a codec to play a video I don't install it.

All of this should make me an excellent target for being infected will endless amounts of malware. However, perhaps surprisingly, this is not the case at all. I get infected usually about twice a year. For me this does not warrant being paranoid about security or trying to do all I can to protect my computer from malware.

I occasionally install antivirus software just to test out different software - certainly not out out of feeling that I need to protect my computer.

My most recently installed antivirus software was Dr Web. However since it caused a noticeable slowdown I ditched it after about 10 minutes.

Now I'm not suggesting that others do the same as me and not use security software. I'm just pointing how easy it seems to be to not get infected.

I must add that whenever I am troubleshooting a computer for someone else I always make sure they have up to date antivirus software installed along with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware.

    Roger,
Do you use online banking or use something like facebook or myspace?
Thats great that you don't feel the need to use a dedicated security product. Alot of the users here, not wanting to speak for everyone, either feel that security is important or enjoy testing certain security software. I feel that using online banking and online shopping without security software is an accident waiting to happen. Of course we all have our reasons for why we do things. I hope you continue to be safe and free of infection. Good luck

Hmm... that's surprising - most including me only run parts of it that suit. Mind sharing your thoughts on why you choose the whole suite? ;)

I also had the idea to start using Panda Cloud AV, and removing ESET. Also because of Panda is an interesting product which ain't in the cloud of Hitman Pro (yet). And I am starting too find the package deal of Hitman Pro / ESET quite expensive now in SurfRight shop (45€).

But had a few problems with it:
    1. It installs in Program Files (x86): I want my antivirus be installed in the 64-bit one, I know it probably will still use 32-bit processes in compatiblity mode: but I want the installation folder to be Program Files. In general it seems not to be the best friend of 64-bit operating systems.
    2. Too less configurable options.
    3. I do hear a lot of rumours it quarantines and deletes files without notifying.

    1. Not sure since i use x86
    2. True
    3. True, it quarantines without notification, they said they would change it.

About other options, if you have money you can get PrevX full package or Hitman Pro alone which is VERY VERY cheap :D

And up to now, Panda AV looks promising in my setup, another keeper :p

BluePointSecurity and Winpatrol Plus. I'm surprised more people are not using BluePoint. I'm no expert but it seems to do a really good job and with the newest version you can set it up at install and get no popups.

    1. No idea I also don't have a 64bit machine to test on. I know it supports 64bit.

    2. That will be changing soon

    3. The not notification issue will be changed soon. Panda does not alert right away if the file is not executed because it takes the time to disinfect the file and to keep to the stay out of you way behavior.

Sounds good. The two last were the most important anyway. Looking forward to the new version then. Would be even cooler if Panda didn't join the Hitman Pro cloud. Panda Cloud + Hitman Pro: how light, how awesome.
