Yeah, either I'm streaking or praying that my PC boots with all the apps on startup!

    Changed to:

    Router
    KIS 2009
    Zemana anti-logger
    KeyScrambler Personal
    BOClean
    MalwareBytes Anti-Malware
    SuperAntiSpyware on-demand
    Ad-aware
    Spybot S&D
Firefox with NoScript, AdBlock Plus, and Cookie control add ons

I'm pretty paranoid as security goes even though I don't have anything to hide, but that's just how I am. I even like to avoid American companies for main security because of the current U.S. government.

I don't see any much more to add to my list of security protection & privacy.

In addition to my signature below you can add TrueCrypt 5a plus Malware Defender.

This inventory of my present Strategic Defenses is all but fully complete IMO.

    Current setup.

    Sandboxie
    Comodo firewall with D+
    Diamonds Process Guard PAID version

Web filtering using Admuncher, FF Noscript and all cookies blocked with Cookie safe add on

    and currports for analyzing traffic.

Thinking of uninstalling Comodo to give Malware Defender a try.

    ADDED:

    Norton Anti-Bot.

I'm not totally sold even though i went ahead with it's purchase, but the fact that it doesn't hamper performance or stability, i'm gambling it can compliment my HIPS the same as it was with Cyberhawk, hopefully with more capability, but so far it seems on an even par with Cyberhawk ATM.

Needs more of my own local testings IMO, but remains to be seen if it can eclipse or not my other Behavioral Blockers like TF (old version & Cyberhawk).

    Hello EASTER,

First of all, I am pleased that hear that you are giving Norton Anti-Bot(NAB)/Primary Response Identity Protection(PRIP)/Primary Response SafeConnect(PRSC) a second chance in your already "impenetrable" security arsenal.

Lastly, if I had known that you were going to purchase NAB, I would have suggested that you consider the purchase of PRIP for cost of $5 less than NAB's regular price. In any case, if you have not yet done so, please take a look at the following link below.

    Peace & Gratitude,

    Thanks

I will have look and review that other program. I bit the grit and went against my better judgement because i have never favored anything from them but maybe they do have a few apps that can be relied on. Only time now will tell.

However, I'm still deciding between two setups. KIS or Avira Suite with firewall turned off + Outpost. I moved to KIS because of consistent FPs with Avira on websites - even medium got a couple.

NIS 2009 is improved, but I don't want to spend more money - and the detection is still a little better with what I have IMO. But Norton is getting up there in detection.

    I'd say KIS :D
But if you chose it IMO you should also remove Ad-Aware, Spybot, BOClean and MBAM from your setup. Ad-Aware and Spybot aren't needed. BOClean is good but not much needed too. MBAM is an anti-malware, so it detects both spyware and malware. You already have KIS (malware&spyware), so you only need SAS(additional anti-spyware).

You don't need Avira suite +Outpost.Avira free +Outpost is enough. You have very good Av +Powerful HIPS &high configurable firewall from Outpost.
You will have the same from KIS. I'm not a vs b so choose what you want.
In fact i had avira free+outpost till recently i drop avira becouse i run sandboxie all time thanks to improved speed of Firefox 3 (sandboxed &not only)compared to FF2,and on my work Pc i have KIS2009.

I guess I don't need those extras, but I feel good having them as long as they are on-demand and don't conflict.

Also, I have a license for the Avira Suite so might as well use the Suite if I use AntiVir. I tried using just AntiVir Premium, but my Suite license didn't work with that.

    REMOVED:

    Norton AntiBot :thumbd:

So ends my dealings with Symantec again. Yesterday it seemed promising, today it couldn't even alert on what i allowed CyberHawk to PASS. So thats it for me.

On top of that, it left over 34 LEGACY keys in my registry that required precision surgery to first switch permissions then delete that junk.

I'm thoroughly convinced Symantec in it's present state will never compete with the likes of smaller developers who seem to be much more intelligent as well as respectful to it's customer's investments.

Ye olde wired SPI router...tried and true front line!

    Software Firewall:
    ZAP 8.0.020.000...I like this version!

    Active Anti-Malware:
    AntiVir Premium...speaks for itself.
Comodo BOClean...has its detractors, has proved itself to me over the years.
    Mamutu...favorite behavior blocker for now!

    Passive AntiMalware
SAS Pro...BOB as far as I'm concerned. If I wasn't running AP, it would be active.
MBAM...Good anti-malware, and consistently being improved.

    System Hardening:
    SafeXP
    Seconfig XP
SpywareBlaster...all of these fall into the "I'd be dumb not to" category!

These programs work well for me, and have minimum impact on my 3.0 GHZ 4 GB RAM XP Pro SP3 rig. I also get a minimal hit on my pricey 20 MBPS cable connection! :D Where are you, Verizon FIOS?! :gack:

    Hi,

I managed to get my hands on an test motherboard of a friend (asrock 4 core dual sata2), so with an investment of 100 euro's (E5200 + ddr2800 2GB mem), I have replaced my old Athlon 3400 play pc.

Although CPU performance is 2x the old one (same harddisk + AGP video card), both GeSWall and DefenseWall caused IO congestion. After some 4 hours of hard work it turned out to be the VIA IDE driver causing the delay. I wanted Sata2 in stead of sata1 (50% difference in burst, but only 10 percent in normal throughput). Therefore I decided to try another setup, here it is:

Spyberus, yes, it has convinced me, seems stable and reliable.

EQSecure 3.4 (old trusted freeware friend):
    - rules applying on all programs: allow, except for phisical memory and direct disk access, reduced file and registry protection to static keys/values only (so EQS should give a minimum of pop-ups)
    - rules applying on all my internet facing programs: allow run application and dll library, all others warn + block (so increased control on threat gates only).

Avira free (because of good detection rates, blocked nag scren with EQS), with check on writes only (no check on startng programs)

Amust defender to run IE7 wih limited rights. Using Chrome as second test browser.

So far runs very snappy. CPU usage of combined security programs is 50% of previous setup (on same PC), I/O load is 150x less (which was the weak link due to the VIA driver). Backup/restore with Maxxblast (limited freeware version of Acronis) for programs partition, SE syncback free for data partition (external harddrive is most of the time disconnected) and a properly configured router.

I like to keep it simple and hate wasting time on overkills.
    - Firewall (Ghostwall) + router
    - Firefox with several addons (NoScript, Flashblock, Adblock, etc.)
    - use webmail service that will scan attachments for viruses before downloading it to my email client software (Thunderbird). TB has the option to scan incoming emails but I don't use it because webmail service already took care of this step.
    - use ClamWin Free AV to scan file on demand that were obtained from internet. Sometime I will use VirusTotal and Kaspersky's online file scan to do more test.
    - encrypt portable HDD using TrueCrypt and run portable apps off from it. Data kept on external storage as well (w/ backups).
    - use disk image to restore computer quickly. Use MultiSet to help me auto install/register softwares quickly.
    - use blocklist from Bluetack (for eMule) and ensure that server list is clear of fakes/rogues
    - use sandbox to test new software or do stability test without messing up my registry
    - resign to the fact that I will need to periodically reinstall the O/S every few months to PC lean and fast

Been using this method for years and it seems to work nicely! HTH

Nice security setup........and WELCOME TO WILDER'S SECURITY COMMUNITY arlanda :)

With full confidence and equal results with my HIPS, both Real-Time Defender & EQsecure 4 + Alcyon's Great Rules, i still find little interest in any AV's except for the occasional sample checks via Jotti or Virus Total plus my old NOD32.............but, i read so many glowing reports and complete satisfaction by users of Avira that i'm seriously considering giving it a try. I just hope it will gel well with my HIPS & Cyberhawk because those i just can't turn away from.
