Avira is good, its very light on resources, has a very good detection and is fast at snapping any trojans that you happen to download inside your Sandboxie.

But I don't personally use an AV any more, since I have 3 good security layers
I see little need for an AV.

My 3 security layers are Filtering, Sandboxie and Hips.

    1. my filtering is FF no script, admuncher and a well configured firewall, this alone blocks most malware from infected websites.

    2. any malware which happens to get passed the above filtering goes into Sandboxie.

    3. And any Malware which happens to get passed filtering and Sandboxie which is highly unlikely my Hip programs, Process guard and Malware Defender will block it.

I really can't see how its possible for any thing to get passed all of this.

On Vista 64: Comodo FW 3.5 beta, nothing more, nothing less :)
    On XP 32: KIS 8, doesn't bother with pop-ups.

My wife liked the faster PC, so I put old XP Pro version on

Firewall: Router, with properly cofigured FireWall (SPI + NAT + etc )
    Policy: XP Pro power user
AntiSpyware, IDS: Spyware Terminator 2.5 beta
Antivirus: Avast standard shield to check at write only (no on execution)
Browser: Amust Defender to run IE7 as limited user

    Note settings updated

No longer running Opera, Firefox because current PC is fast enough to run IE7. PC is also completely standard (no hardening), but fully patched.

    Sorry,

PC was from 2003, startup time was 5 to 7 secs, not browsing with it.

I recently had a day off and decided to try something different.
Curiosity got the best of me.
Whether I keep this duo or not, it's to early to say, but this has truely been a pleasant surprise.
Both programs are very lite, problem free, so far, and my computer has never ran faster.
    Set up right now:

    Comodo D+ 3.0.25.378
    DriveSentry 3.1.2.5
    SpywareBlaster
    Win Patrol Plus
CookieWall - Just an old favorite that I like!
    MailWasher Pro
    FD-ISR

    SAS On Demand
    Behind a firewalled router

I carry an armament of strategic defenses weapons as evidenced in my signature.

But day after day i've become comfortable with just runnung Kerio 2.15 w/Blitzen's Rules as well as either RTD or EQS w/Alcyon's Rules which is really elevated the security potential of EQS eons beyond it's defaults. And Magic Shield? They don't seem interested in accommadating us english users but thats OK, they put enough in EQS 4 to do the job, and that mostly courtesy Alcyon!

In combination i got lucky that old Cyberhawk is completely compatible and dependable plus lite as a feather with no signs of issues, thats a huge plus for any Behavioral Blocker, so i'm sticking to my guns with it.

Just to side on caution no matter what, i take regular weekly images with DriveSnapshot and store then to an off-line internal HD. That ensures any potential for distortions are just an annoyance that can be quickly remedied.

On the cuff, is SandboxIE, it goes on all my units because it is a GREAT! program, and Returnil is always at the ready for any probing into malware collecting.

All in all, without an AV, my system is smooth as silk, well covered, and is remained virtually impenetrable by anything possible conceived, now or in the future.

Pretty "Lite" but formidable combination i would say and snug as a bug in the rug.

My current setup on Vista x64:

    NAT router

    Resident:
    Avira Premium
    Rising FW (free)
    Norton Antibot
    Winpatrol (free)
    Keyscrambler (free)
    SAS (lifetime license)
    Comodo memory FW

    On demand:
MBAM free (fix the paid version so it works with x64 already!)

    Other:
    Spywareblaster
    Acronis TIH
    Blocklist Manager for uTorrent
    CCleaner
Firefox with noscript, Adblock Plus, WOT

Spent the past week trying new (and old) firewalls: Comodo with and without D+, Webroot (which got up to 500mb of memory), Vista FW Control... Kind of happy with Rising, but I'm always looking to tinker. have no reason so far NOT to be happy with it. I wish something like PC-Tools worked with x64, or webroot fixed their crap. It'd be a GREAT firewall/HIPS without the memory leak.

In past I have tried Comdo FW with Defense + (really liked it!) and DriveSentry.
DS was good as well. But now I am back with KIS 2009.

    My setup and a questions:
    Vista Premium SP1.

Router Firewall with SPI, NAT, portstealth etc.

    Geswall free.

    Windows Defender with Spynet.

Firefox 3 with noscript, WOT, keyscramber free and keepass.

    Running untrusted files in sandboxie.

Most of the time I play games do some regular surfing or try to compile something in Java or C++.
I even don't go to sites without any sort of community so I know it's safe.
I am also wondering if I should get Geswall pro or Defensewall. I like both, but which one has more power.

    Thanks for your help,
