I didn't have any issues with detection, at least last four five years, except a few rare distros that do not wish to package proprietary firmware. But T400 was giving me the gyp for a while with its N card. Will test again soon.

If you can find a simple solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have Ubuntu on a ThinkPad and it works far better and faster than 7 or 8 ever did. My VPN is reliably connected and the speeds are equal or faster all day long. Almost never a disconnect but UFW firewall'd if it happens.

Mrk. Great article - will pass on to my neighbour who wants to try Linux.

May I ask what air combat (?) game you are/were running ? The Linux no image, Pawnee airplane.. ? (Doesn't look like FSX).
(X-Plane is running perfectly currently on Xubuntu, but in demo mode one only has the one location and surrounds. Otherwise it does everything the paid version does).

I can scratch another so called dealbreaker from my list. I tried running my WinTV-Stick under Linux (Suse) and to my surprise it worked very well. I opened Kaffeine and searched for channels and it found even 4 more than under Windows Vista (I couldn't get the stick to work with Win7 despite drivers being available).
So far, most things just work out of the box. You have to install codecs in Windows as well, so that shouldn't be a problem.
