I think they're only doing the update rollups for Win 7. I could be wrong of course, but that's my impression. If so, then it won't be available for Vista..

Check and see how much peak memory svchost.exe -netsvcs used after boot time.

Prior to applying KB3161664, it was using over 1 GB of memory. After applying KB3161664, it is holding steady at 835 MB peak and 50 MB working. Also search for Win Updates now on my PC only take a couple of mins..

725 MB peak working set, and 41 MB working set now.

It took me around 5 minutes to check for, download and install Windows 7 and Office 2010 updates. Great :thumb:

The previously much-discussed methods worked. What had taken 45 minutes to an hour took 8 minutes on my Windows 7 x64 laptop.

One of life's great burdens has finally been lifted from my shoulders! :D

You can download KB3161647 here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=52794 if you don't want to or can't download the KB3161608 rollup update using Win Updates.

You can also download the KB3161608 rollup update from the Win Update Catalog.

In any case, you will need to stop the Win Update service to run either update fix. Otherwise, the fix will hang just like when you try to download from via Win Updates.

I believe you are right. I searched and could not find any separate KB3161647. The only way to get it is to install the June Update Rollup KB3161608 as you mentioned. I installed it and will see how the updates go in August.

I can't get these patches to work on an old computer I am working on.
It is Windows 7 Enterprise and it says that they are not applicable to my computer even though the Microsoft site states:
All supported x86-based versions of Windows 7
All supported x64-based versions of Windows 7

Just to be clear - exactly which patches are we talking about?
    KB3161608, or other?

    Regarding KB3161608,
KB3020369 "April 2015 servicing stack update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2" , is a prerequisite for installing KB3161608.
    Perhaps KB3020369 wasn't installed, earlier?
If KB3020369 wasn't installed earlier, first install that one, before installing KB3161608.

I've tried a number of patches mentioned in this thread, including KB3161608.
    I will try KB3020369 now.

    Thanks.

If KB3020369 wasn't installed earlier, and you install it now, after that, you should be able to install KB3161608.
    Good luck.

The KB3020369 installer is still stuck at:
"Searching for updates on this computer."

And CPU usage is at 100%.

What you need to do is turn updates off completely, then reboot, and download and install those 2 updates manually. After they're installed, then turn updates back on and let it check. It should fix the problem and the check will go fairly quickly.

    Well, I'll be buggered.
Windows Update was stuck at: Checking for updates.
I rebooted and opened Windows Update, and it now has a whole heap of updates waiting to be installed.

Not sure if some of those standalone updates that were stuck at: "Searching for updates on this computer." actually installed and fixed it. Edit: No, they haven't yet been installed.

    @Hadron
    I haven't tested Kerodo's trick.
What worked on a friend's computer was downloading the update from Microsoft Download Center, save it, then go to Services, and stop the Windows Update service (just stop the service for now, no need to disable the service), and then run the update and reboot.
When KB3020369 is installed succesfully that way, I don't know if you need to use the same trick for KB3161608, but if needed, use the same trick for KB3161608.
After installing that one, I hope you're fine.
Kerodo's trick may work great also, but I haven't tested that.
    Once again - good luck!

@Hadron You could check the history and see if those 2 did in fact get installed. If not, then go ahead and install them too... that should fix things for the future.

You can download KB3020369 and KB3161608 from the Windows Update Catalog here: https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx

If turning off Win Updates does work and the installation still hangs, you can try the following - worked for me.

You have to reboot and quickly stop the Windows Update service. You can then install KB3020369.

If a reboot is not required for KB3020369, you can then install KB3161608. If a reboot is required, then repeat the same procedure to stop the Win update service and then install KB3161608. I do know a reboot is required to complete the installation of KB3161608.

    A friggin nightmare, I know ..................

It is downloading, but it still says 0%.
I don't want to stop it just yet.
