Probably because I have Bing as my home page... I see this in Firefox.

    MS Edge.PNG

I already have MS Chromium Edge installed.

I think this is the reason =
"Starting with Microsoft Edge 83 release, we will perform gradual rollouts of major updates to "Microsoft Edge Stable channel over the span of a few days. This progressive rollout allows us to monitor upgrades and safely update the browser across the organization". https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...d-edge-looks-like.414193/page-15#post-2918684

I have some bad news, the online installer won't run at all in Sandboxie, pretty weird. Luckily one of the first Edge Chromium versions still works just fine. But I wanted to check out the improvements, but I'm not willing to install it on my real machine though.

Hi everyone, I read elsewhere about the alleged superiority of Chromium Edge over Chrome.

The first test checks for malicious downloads in the browsers.
Obviously in Chromium Edge, Microsoft Defender Smartscreen is on.
And the WD real-time protection off because otherwise the download would be blocked by the antivirus:

Chromium Edge (the malicious file is downloaded):

    ~All Images removed.~

Chrome (the download of the malicious file is stopped):

The other test examines the browser's internal protection from links to phishing content.
You should know that if you rely on DNS which also filter out malicious links, this protection starts working after the internal one of the browser.
I did a test between the 2 browsers with Quad9 DNS active..

In Chromium Edge with Microsoft Defender Smartscreen on, only Quad9 DNS protection intervenes blocks the malicious link:

Google Safe Browsing of Chrome blocks phishing content:

You can repeat the tests but as usually happens in these cases the results change even after a short time.
It is evident that the internal protection of the 2 browsers against links to malware/phishing content is different.
Sunday is a good day to carry out these tests, because the update time may be different between the various soft-houses.

Also the command line switches to eliminate the insecure cipher suites does not work in Chromium Edge.

I currently find Chrome more secure than Chromium / Edge.;)

But you, feel free to think differently (despite these results).:)

P.S. I thank my daughter who kindly lent me her pc for these tests.

    About "home-grown" malware tests

This forum does not encourage people to collect malware samples or produce their own anti-malware detection tests. If people do want to do that, then do not post your results here. See this thread for more on this policy.

    I didn't collect malware samples.
In both cases, the phishing test blocked the links, one thanks to the protection of Quad9 DNS, the other thanks to the protection of Google Safe Browsing.
In the case of UrlHaus test databases, the download was blocked in Chrome.
Only then in Chromium Edge was a download of a file with a ppc extension, a file deliberately chosen because in the PC no software present is able to open this file.
In addition, when the WD real time protection was reactivated (i.e. immediately after the successful download) the file was deleted by the antivirus.

The use of the images only to highlight the tests does not constitute any danger for this forum and its visitors.
Identical Images that are commonly found in all articles that highlight the protections of browsers that are brought to the attention of the members of this forum.

Deleting images from my post prevents the right to information.
And it reminds me of the times of the inquisition in the Middle Ages.
