Thanks Kyle. It's the first time I have really missed a software. There has always been an alternative.

Thank you for helping me keeping my PC and those of my family members up-to-date.

Wish there was a similar tool (of the same quality) to keep them that way...

I'm trying WingetUI instead of UCheck now.

First impression: much better for my use case.

I'm currently using my individual Softpedia App Watchlist.

First impression: That's all I need. This watchlist covers almost all apps that I regularly use.

One problem with MajorGeeks, is that is has a very small amount of apps compared to bigger download sites like Softpedia.

Yep, I like MajorGeeks, but Softpedia seems to offer more apps. Are there any other big download sites like Softpedia?

I don't think there any others that are as big as Softpedia.

I have over 25 portable apps (BleachBit Portable, HWiNFO Portable, TreeSize Free Portable, etc.) that I run from a removable USB stick that cannot be updated by package managers like WingetUI.

I'm currently monitoring UCheck and QuickInstaller (Preview/BETA) since both these programs can detect available updates for portable apps as well as installed software. Currently, both UCheck and QuickInstaller can only detect available updates for a small number of portable apps, but that number should be increasing soon for both programs.

Both programs have their pros and cons but at the moment the QuickInstaller preview is my personal preference. See my 02-Nov-2023 comments in post # 15 of QuickInstaller Software Updater/Installer Releases & Discussions for my initial impressions of this program.

Sadly, none of the software updater programs I've tested so far come close to SUMo's usability and clean interface design.

    +1

Another advantage of QuickInstaller over other existing alternatives is that you can easily expand its knowledge by yourself. Anyone can add new programs and within 30 days it will appear in the program and detect updates to the programs you recommend.

    Hi @feerf56:

The current notice from QuickInstaller developer Hans Christian Ihlen-Abelson at https://www.quickinstaller.net/submitapps that states "QuickInstaller is currently developed and maintained by myself...Therefore I cannot say how long it will take for replies, processing of submitted applications and further development...At this moment there are a lot of registered submissions.I cannot know how long it will take for your submitted application to become available, if at all. Verifying a submitted application can be very time consuming and depends on both the information provider by the user but most of all how the application is packaged and if there is an static link for the latest version. This will depend on the installer/portable package and web site link for the latest version."

I've already submitted requests for a few portable apps to QuickInstaller but do not expect they will be added within 30 days. However, it does look like a well-designed, user-friendly program that has been doing a good job of accurately detecting updates for my portable apps that it does currently support (including CCleaner, HWiNFO, Process Explorer, Revo Uninstaller Free, Sysinternals Autorun, etc.) so I'm willing to be patient.
