OK, I tried it again and this time it worked.

I installed it while being off-line. Not supported.
Rebooted while being off-line. Not supported.
Clicked at that little "wheel" at the top left corner of Magician, while being off-line. In the middle of Magician a bigger wheel spins for awhile. Not supported.
I went on-line and clicked again at that little "wheel" at the top left corner of Magician. Bingo! Now it tells me that it is supported.

    So the trick was:
    1. being on-line
    2. clicking at that little "wheel" at the top left corner of Magician.

I am also using the new Magician on my 850 Pro and 64 bit Win 10 Pro. No issues, and I did NOT set Over Provisioning.. Next I have to update my f/w as I am still on EXM01B6Q and it is now EXM04B6Q for my 850 Pro. Not sure what Magician will try to give me.

OH, the reason Samsung limits the d/l of a new Magician is NOT Bandwidth. It is limited so that they can catch any unknown bugs that people may report within a few days of a new release.

Do I need to disable Rapid Mode before I update the Firmware using Magician 5.1?

I don't use Rapid Mode, but I found something very strange.
Maybe it is me, my system or whatever .....
I posted about yes/no supported. But there seems to be more about that, at least on my system.

    1.
As I posted, I had upgraded to that latest Magician version 5.1.0.1120. Initially I got a message from Magician that my 840 Pro was not supported. I had to go on-line and click that little "wheel" at the top left corner of Magician. Then things were OK. See screenshot.

    Samsung_2017-06-08_02.png

    2.
But now I go off-line and reboot. Guess what: Rapid Mode not supported. See screenshot.

    Samsung_2017-06-08_03.png

    3.
    This raises some questions:

    3-a
Is this happening because I don't use Rapid Mode?
    3-b
Is this happening because Magician needs to have internet connection for Rapid Mode?
    3-c
Any other reason and/or combination of 3-a and 3-b?
    3-d
Is something similar happening to you with and without Rapid Mode enabled?

OK, I did some more testing:
Having once again clicked on that little "wheel" at the top left corner of Magician.
So, Magician tells me again that Rapid Mode is supported.

    4-a
Rebooted while being on-line: Rapid Mode supported.

    4-b
I went off-line and rebooted: Rapid Mode not supported.

So, my questions to all of you using Magician:
Do you see something similar? Please tell
    - whether you use Rapid Mode
    - your Magician version
    - your Windows version
    - your Samsung model.

    Thanks.

    Hi Mantra,

Is your question related to a recent thread at the Eset forum?
    https://forum.eset.com/topic/13752-issue-bsod-last-update-and-samsung-magician/

I don't know from where to download an older version, like 4.9.7.
As you said, you have to be very cautious when downloading from another site!
But I can give you the checksums for version 4.9.7

The .zip package containing the installer:

The file Samsung_Magician_Setup_v497.zip has the following Checksum(s)
    MD5 - 46FB6FC30D1780ECD3C577C5936E0016
    SHA-160 - EC7A9B6832EFB36EF582E6BE43477A994E4D887E
    SHA-256 - 2EF7F4373BF28E401583B92A5EB00B5B8697AA2E03A78C79E5D4F54DF88150EC

The .exe installer itself from that .zip file:

The file Samsung_Magician_Setup_v497.exe has the following Checksum(s)
    MD5 - 63B3005C9C58ECC137D2136F3F189051
    SHA-160 - 8539EE2EF6EE40B93C195F2DFADD23965C355292
    SHA-256 - 7E222A448E220A982A3F1D8AE82A63549D6EBBA753D65032FC959C858CBF5A36

    Hi Mantra,

First: you're welcome for the checksums! I thought that it would be better to give you them in case you would try to download version 4.9.7 from another site, so you know the file is the same as the original one from the Samsung site.

Does Samsung Magician version 4.9.7 fix your problem?

    Yes, I run both Eset ( version 11.0.149.0 ) and Samsung Magician ( version 5.1.0.1120 ) on Win 7 Pro 64-bit, on a Samsung SSD 840 Pro 512 GB.
For some time I was hesitating on Magician version 5.1.0.1120 but finally thought OK. I don't use the extra's from Samsung Magician though.
As for the hips module in Eset: It is now and then updated. Now and then (but not always daily) I save the module info in a text file. On my computer I noticed:
    4 Nov 2017: HIPS support module: 1301 (20171016)
    6 Nov 2017: HIPS support module: 1301 (20171016)
    7 Nov 2017: HIPS support module: 1301 (20171016)
    8 Nov 2017: HIPS support module: 1302 (20171030)
    13 Nov 2017: HIPS support module: 1303 (20171107)

On my computer I haven't seen a BSOD lately.

My wild guess: I would think that there are tens of thousands of computers in the world on which both Eset and Samsung Magician is used. My wild guess could be wrong though (maybe more, maybe less), and I may have to stand corrected.
But let's assume that it is only thousands, wouldn't there be more complaints? Would you be the only person seeing it, and reporting it? Wouldn't Eset not already being aware of it?
I don't know the answer to those questions.

So, this all leads to me to:
    1. Are you still seeing those BSOD's?
    2. Wouldn't it be better to give Marcos the info he asked in that Eset forum thread?

    hi
i have seen about the module , i have 13 Nov 2017: HIPS support module: 1303 (20171107) too , what version of eset smart security do you run?
the point is that ,(i can't try right now) , starting samsung 4.9.5 the cpu jump @100% , samsung try to check the serial number and after a 30 seconds mark it as original , and start to check for overprovisioning , i have to leave your machine ,if you try to termanite samsung or you try anything , the pc freezes and you have only the hard reset or you could have a bsod

you know the oddd , i copied the all folder to another location , and i got no isse
but if i run it from the installation , well the problems starts even they have update the hips

    thanks

    Hi Mantra,

I don't use Rapid Mode and Over Provisioning in Samsung Magician.

I'm afraid that we are hijacking this thread about Samsung Magician a little bit too much.
Maybe the postings starting at reply # 112 needs to be split off into a separate thread.
I am sorry that you are having those problems and that at the moment you cannot produce the logs that Marcos asked you in that Eset forum thread. I hope that soon you will be able to produce those logs and post about it in that Eset forum thread. I guess that it is best to let Eset have a look at those logs so they can find out what is happening.

    Thanks
That was exactly the reason why I asked it.
In the past (versions 4) the version number was in the name of the install guide pdf.
Since version 5.1 (as far as I can tell) that is nomore the case.
I noticed that the checksums for the install guides pdf for 5.1 and 5.2 are the same.

I guess another company that doesn't want us to know what has been changed .....

    PS: I haven't yet upgraded.

    @anon, @FanJ,

I don't know if I had a coincidental issue occurring, but ever since installing v5.2 (over v5.1) Wednesday I was experiencing a serious startup problem (system hanging at Welcome)!. Not knowing for sure what was causing this problem I decided to restore a system backup image taken just prior to installing v5.2 (reverting the system back to v5.1) - and the startup problem is gone!

In 3 PC's with OS Windows 10 (1709) and Samsung SSD 840 & 850 EVO, Magician upgraded from 5.1 to 5.2, no problems.

Well as I said, it is possible that something else was messing with my startup (although I haven't been able to identify any system changes other than SM v5.2). Fwiw, I have enabled Over Provisioning but not Rapid Mode on my 1TB 850EVO,

I finally just got version 5.2.0.1610 via Magician when manually checking in it for an update.
(previous attempts either via Magician or manually downloading were not successfull; the usual thing with it, and I wasn't in an hurry).
Win7 Pro 64-bit with Samsung SSD 840 Pro.
Let's see how things are going in the coming days.

Anyone in the meanwhile knowing the changelog? Please let us know.
