No more individual patches for Windows 7 and 8

Mister X, my apologies for taking your hard work for granted. Besides saving me time finding the correct downloads, your links serve as a reminder that it's time to update. Without your help, it would probably dawn on me at some point months down the road that I had neglected to update my computer with the security only quality updates. So you have my thanks, and please, keep up the good work!

Just asking for feedback and wanted to know if members really need those links, lol, I just wanted people to raise their hands only just to know whether my job is worth the time and efforts.

Post #231 Update on banned processors: I found out today that Microsoft has added the block for updates to the 'banned processors' via the Monthly cumulative rollups for both W7 and W8, and to the Security-Only updates for W7/8 this month.

Hold off on this months updates if you have one of these banned processors and investigate if VirtualBox is a possibility or bite the bullet (i.e. W10).

Some 6th gen processors have been caught up in the ban (they should not have) and MS is looking into a fix ...

Just to be sure.... the update KB3125574 ( 476,9 MB ) it isn't an only security update, it's a fully update since SP1, ?

 

Yes, a "full update":

 

The convenience rollup KB3125574 contains previously released updates, both security and non-security updates packaged in a convenient installer. It contains all the MS telemetry KBs You should turn off CEIP if that concerns you.

NB: There’s no reason to install the convenience rollup, unless you have a brand new Win7 installation with SP1 installed.

I want to reinstall my OS, i have the Windows dvd with SP1, but I want to update only with security updates. So till April 2016 I will have to do manually.

 

You want to cherry pick just security updates only from SP1 through to April 2016? if that is what you are trying to achieve, it will be a herculean task. If you let WU send everything your system requires (check but not install), you'll have to sift through every update one at a time. You are in for well over 250 updates. You could use the MS catalog to cherry pick security-only updates for that period of time, but it would be like wading through a vipers nest.

Be aware that MS has been known to include non-security fixes in security patches and vice versa.

It is just my opinion, but I see no advantage to building a W7 system with just security-updates from SP1 (unless you are trying to avoid some features or troublesome fixes). I'd suggest you use the convenience rollup and then turn on WU to let MS send you all important updates from then to today - from there you can cherry pick. Install up to October 2016, then set WU to check but not install. Hide everything on the list that you do not want. Then go for the security only bundles.

 

I'm sorry : with " manually " I meant just to use WU Mini Tool and choose the security updates, not read all the MS bulletins since SP1.

Reading, in the past, the description of non security updates, I saw that I have not advantage to install them. I suspect that MS includes non security fixes in security updates, but I want to keep my system as light and alone trash as I can.
