How is that possible, what works there? Something is more than very wrong, have you tried making a new User Data folder? There may be something damaged.
Martin Brinkmann has an amusing takedown of "Windows Copilot," which tried to force itself into MS Edge on my non-insider build of Windows 10 22H2 https://ghacks.net/2023/11/04/windows-copilot-is-still-dumb-like-a-rock/
For those having trouble with Edge running when it shouldn't, these are the settings I used to stop it in Windows 10 (YMMV): edge://settings/system
https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...-channel-releases.451296/page-12#post-3170259 https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftE...is_edge_still_running_in_the_background_when/ The bug is in latest versions of Windows 11.
For those who don't want Edge at all, this I what I use to get rid of it: MS Edge Removal = https://github.com/AveYo/fox/blob/main/Edge_Removal.bat
removal is futile, just use any redirector as you like to. for europe there is a major change coming to have the choice for default browser for any kind where is fixed in the usa. the batch do not tell all of the truth, you can remove edge, but removing msedgewebview is rather dumb. user need to activate the high vulnerable internet explorer and newer programs like mailwasher need webview.
Also note that you cannot turn off the sidebar in Edge if Copilot is turned off. https://www.neowin.net/news/edge-11...g-or-disabling-the-sidebar-if-copilot-is-off/
IMO its tied to bing in sidebar. at least i do not use the sidebar in any way, i keep it clean. for my company its forbidden to use any AI service, so copilot has to be disabled, did not check because my settings are more strict also at work. just updated my W10 21H2 with longer support - the searchbar was re-enabled, but its asking me right now to revert this change. i will revert. and i have not set all the gpo choices like on this system. to do...
That is what I do as well and it works. I am late coming into this thread however. I guess @xxJackxx is doing this and its not working?
Some interesting info on WebView2 here https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/WebView2Feedback/discussions/4036 Also where the logs are. https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/WebView2Feedback/blob/main/diagnostics/install.md#installer-logs
The easiest way to manually update the WebView2 Runtime: Programs & Settings > Edge WebView2 Runtime right click > change
Correct, it is not working. It worked a couple of weeks ago, it does not now. None of this makes me want to use Edge more.
Wish I'd known this earlier but I had to find out the hard way. I was trying out uCheck in another thread here and discovered that it was out of date. I mean: it's supposed to get updated when Edge browser does but what if you refuse to run Edge? Then it just languishes there. So since the free version of uCheck doesn't update it for you, I had to search on how to do it manually. I like the Microsoft Weather app, that's the only need for WebView2 runtime on here.
Ok, I think I found the issue. Despite the fact that I didn't use it anyway, disabling Copilot seems to have resolved the issue. I applied the registry key, rebooted, and now if I open and close Edge it closes as expected. I should probably give it more time to make sure that is entirely the issue but it looks promising so far after opening and closing multiple times.
That stinks man! Oh ok now I see you think you fixed it. However, I forgot you are running a preview build of Windows correct? I am on normal 22H2 and never had this problem.
Thanks for the hint, please keep us informed if it works or not. Two days ago, I tried the other option (via gpedit) = which was not worked for me.
Tested few minutes ago, not worked here..... As I already said, the other option (via gpedit) not worked too. Microsoft Edge 120.0.2186.2 Dev tested, same story. Seems that I'm not alone =
