    Hi,

My C: (5 GB total space) shows only 437 mb free space while the contents add up to 3GB only. So there is 1.5 GB missing. When i boot in safe mode it shows 950 mb free space but the contents still add up to 3GB only.

The C: drive is the boot drive with windows and program files it.

Can anyone help me on this please..

    Ti,

I am probably no help but am intrigued by the missing Gig and a half.

You did not say if the OS was XP or whatever, so I don't know if you have
gone into MY Computer -View - Folder Ops. - 'Show all Files' to be checked.

When you open My Computer and right click on C:\ and click on Properties
how does the cake show the slices, as in total - free.

    Regards.

Have you cleaned out surplus system restore points using disc cleanup? They can chew up lots of space. I think they are stored in 'system volume information'? Which is hidden. You would have to unhide 'protected operating system files' in folder options....

    Welcome to the Forum tihom!

I'm sure there's probably a lot tied up in *junk* files (temp stuff ... removed over 400mb's after I realized).
May I recommend choosing a program from either Best Cleaner Program? or Junk File Erasers.

If you would prefer to avoid a new soft at the moment, look here.

    Hi,

Thanks for your help...i did unhide 'protected operating system files' in folder options and then i saw two big files named PAGEFILE.SYS (800 mb) and hiberfil.sys (500 mb)......so should i delete these or are they important....and whether thier size is too large than normal?...my OS is XP

    Regards
