Since I don't notice any problems, I guess that I can just wait for May Cumulative Update and don't bother with this un/reinstall procedure? I'm sure that 99%+ users don't know about all of this and their computers run just fine.

From what I have heard, you do not have to do anything if you did not have networking issues with the March updates. KB4099950 is also in the rollups, but not the security-only updates (it is not a security issue). I think the NIC problem was less likely to have an impact on Home users. Businesses more so.

Thats what I understand. The one I installed is the one from the catalog released in early April. According to some of what I read, my understanding is that I am OK and don't have to uninstall/reinstall anything.

This is what I gather from what I read, KB4099950 taken from the Catalog creates C:\Windows\Logs\PCIClearStaleCache.txt, KB4099950 delivered via Windows updates dont. Thats the problem with this update when you updated via Windows update. So, my guess is, if you have the txt file log thats supposed to be created by KB4099950 in the computer, you are OK.

    Thanks again emmjay!

I leave it as it is, as we discussed before in #4010, #4015, #4016 where you gave great advice.

    To re-capture:
    I use security-only updates on Win 7 64-bit.
A few days before the April updates I uninstalled the March security-only update KB4088878, then installed KB4099950, and then reinstalled the March security-only update KB4088878.
And then the April security-only update KB4093108 is installed.

The version of the file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\pci.sys is 6.1.7601.24056.
    The file C:\Windows\Logs\PCIClearStaleCache.txt says:
I completely agree with you emmjay about the crazy situation MS created. MS should give far and far better and clearer guidelines at the KB4099950 article. Different guidelines for the different situations: security-only updates or rollups, updates via WU or via MS Catalog, etc. They themselves give the possibility via MS Catalog, then they should also give the appropriate info and guidelines. What a crazy mess they created themselves!

Thanks also to Minimalist, Bo, and Dragon1952 for the replies (and link) about the issue!

    Hi John,

I did end up installing from the Insider angle. No major issues to report. I plan to do a clean install once this goes final. As Jack stated that bug is not major to me at the moment so all is well.

That bug doesn't affect everyone anyway. Though it is broken on my laptop I tested it on my desktop when I got home last night and it worked fine. It also works fine in a VMWare virtual machine. I see they are rolling it out to HoloLens users (17134) with the claim of no known issues. Maybe I need to get their attention to let them know some of us have the crash problem in the settings. Maybe it's an issue with AMD GPUs.

There's one thing I want to ask regarding Windows Update.

When you update via Windows Update, the update history will display your installation as: "2018-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 10.... (KBXXXX)".

If you update manually via Update Catalog website, it will only display it as "Security Update for Windows (KBXXXX)".

Why the inconsistency, is there any difference? Or is this just another case of Microsoft being Microsoft?

Well, when the next officially-available 17134 (or later) RTM comes out, I will give that a GO. Otherwise I'm currently really happy with 17133 with the 2 updates, and plan to stick with this until then.

I can see it too. A manual update leads to a different description in the update history.
    It's "normal" :)

    Hi All

KB4093112 (April 14) failed to install on my Win 10 64bit Desktop. Each time it tries to reinstall I get a different error message such as:

    0x80246007
    0x8e5e0152
    0x80246010

I have tried many times to get it to reinstall using DISM, SFC /scannow, error checking, windows Update Repair Tool and downloading the actual KB4093112 from MS Catalog. All without success. I have tried safe mode no joy. I have Windows Update switched off to stop the constant "cycling" of this update

Is their anything else anyone can suggest I do apart from wait in the hope of another replacement cumulative update.

ie I do not have a CD DVD for this Win 10 installation because it was upgraded from Win 7, is it possible to acquire a legitimate copy of Win 10 including this KB4093112 update?

    Any help appreciated
    Terry

You can use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to download an ISO and burn it to a DVD. More info:

    Hi xxJackxx

    Thanks for your reply.

    Will do.

One point springs to mind My PC only has a Windows 7 Product licence. What do I use for the DVD installation?

    Thanks

    Terry

@TerryWood You don't need a product key to upgrade to a new build (or even to do a clean install). If you've upgraded to Windows 10, you will have a digital license, without a product key. If you do a clean install, Microsoft will recognise your computer, see you have a digital license and automatically activate it.

As roger said if you have previously activated Windows 10 on the machine you don't need to enter anything, it will be picked up after you install again from the disk. If you do this on a PC that has not been previously upgraded to Windows 10, you would enter the product key from Windows 7 or 8.x (still worked that last time I tried, recently) when prompted and you should be good to go.

It also doesn't exist on the Windows Catalog Update web site.

Suspect it was incorporated into the Win 10 RS4 upgrade pushed from the Win Updates servers.

All I saw was that it was for an earlier version of 17133.

By the way, about ghosted devices, I went to a friends who has a W10 pretty much same as mine, same brand. He is still in 1709, and the ghosted devices are showing also in his computer. I guess they were in mine also in 1709 but didn't put close attention before when I opened Device manager.

This update seems to be for build 17133. But probably this update is already included in newer builds.
