Avast (Minimal Setup), Panda, Bitdefender, 360 TSE or even AVG with all the stuff disabled/removed.

Avira is the lightest av... if it slows down i think you have more problems than only the av..

That is, what stats claim, but I have never seen more heavy AV than that, the ancient GUI does not help either. I have tried it on multiple PCs, it always killed them flat. It takes 30 mins, just to install it.

SO it is really light ;)

For how long did you have it installed? some av products build the first days some caching/optimization in the background which takes more resources, but after that they are "lighter".

Well I am currently testing WD, on CU, it is i supposed to be better (ATP even on Home), secure (DoubleAgent) and light as well. Any other AV caused too many BSODs. :cautious:

Most AVs are still not 64-bit, even after several years, only 64-bit compatible.

Are you looking for free AVS only or paid also?

You may try Webroot, it really works. For AVG, I'd like to stick the original AVG, not avast! rebranded.

Have you checked whether all remnants of one AV were really removed? Most AVs nowadays are very sensitive towards leftovers from other security installations, including their own in some instances, and as a result the computer performance becomes sluggish.

If you don't have a professional uninstaller I would suggest to use REVO free uninstaller, before you try a different AV:

Avast is still pretty different from AVG, maybe it will change over time as they merge, but thus far, Avast is better in all areas.

Thanks, great reading. Kapersky took it like Russians would do.

It is not, what every malware tries to do and usually manages to do?! :isay:

I find this alarming though, AVs will be patched, but what about the rest?!

360 is ok, I'm actually thinking of biting the bullet putting win 10 on it. Being 2yrs old Asus it should run well perhaps 7 is getting bit old in the tooth

Personally, I would take no notice of the comments in the Zemana thread, I use many Chinese programs, and they haven't included any malware.

I should be more specific its actually typing in that facebook chat box, its horrendous and often my sentences are messed up. Using chrome. I'm assuming its the AV but when i did uninstall it, it seemd a bit better flowing.
