    Hello Joe & Co,

I am pretty sure it was discussed already elsewhere, but I am too lazy to search for it and just wanted to make sure it will be addressed and fixed in future versions:

Running now v8.0.2.96 beta (?) I have this problem for example here on Wilders in the text field of messenger composer window while using firefox 18 and also definitely when entering email address into disqus forum and probably anywhere else.

What am I talking about? - Well, instead of one single @-symbol pressing that key I have always 2 of them and the same with the €-symbol.

Strange is: when using notepad and entering the same symbols I haven't this problem. So it shouldn't have something to do with the speed of my keyboard and repetition of keys, right?

Whatever it is, please fix this if possible. It is not a new problem I guess, I had this several times in the past with older versions but it didn't bother me back then. Now it does. A bit.

I've been really curious about this one.

What is the national layout of the keyboard?

Since entering @ requires "Shift down, @ down, @ up, Shift up", do you think you could do that set a little more slowly and see which of those four actions triggers characters? For example, when I was seeing something similar, it triggered one character on @ down, and one on @ up. Then a new release and it triggered on @ down and then on shift up. Then another release and it was fixed.

German keyboard layout. Since I added the quote-element manually on the end of above sentence I now saw using brackets (]][[) has the same problem. It doubles. @@ €€ [[ ]]. And same with ²² {{ }}.

The 2nd character seems to manifest itself when releasing the @-key.

    Yes. Same here.

To be honest I am pressing thumbs for that. :D

    Ooo, fun. :\

Not seeing it on the US Keyboard layout, but now PrevxHelp will hopefully be able to spot this thread and have a lot more good information to track down the issue. :)

    Hi Mat :) ,

You are not the only one to encounter this problem... It seems to concern all the AZERTY keyboards used in Europe.
I got used to this issue but if it could be fixed, it would be great.:D

    Cheers,
    HerveFR ;-)

Hello fellow club members and interested parties ;),

so we are many more than just only me, that's probably a good thing because maybe giving it soon a little higher priority in the eyes of Joe as so far. *wink* :D

I could imagine this issue could be really nerve wracking for people who use some of those symbols in asterisked passwords leading to many replaced keyboards and shortly after that suddenly grayed or maybe even lost (pulled?) hair. :D

But to be fair ... I so far only have the suspicion (not prove) that WRSA could be / is the culprit. Since it is my only AV running and much more important, since I am right now even too lazy to shut it down for a test, I won't any time soon know if it really is. ;) - I read about this issue here in this forum too often I guess to have a reasonable amount of doubt. ;)

And maybe it just goes away in the next build? Will report it then. Also if not. :D

Yeah, I have this exact problem. I use Finnish keyboard layout myself.

It's a problem that comes and goes. I had it earlier this year then it got resolved. A few weeks ago it reappeared with a new SSD and Win8 installed, now with current WSAC version it's fine again... Kinda mysterious... :D

    I'm using QWERTY Catalan layout.

I suspect this is indeed a WSA issue. It's difficult to test each type of keyboard especially international ones as well with the keyboard monitoring we have in place. We're going to be investigating this closer and will hopefully have a resolution soon, but we need to be able to solve it without reducing keylogger protection, which is a bit complicated.

Please let me know if any other keystroke combinations don't work correctly or if you're experiencing any other problems as this will help narrow down the issue.

    Thanks! :thumb:

As far as I am concerned, this issue has been around for more than a year, and does not only involve European keyboards (as I live in Canada): https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=313284

It used to happen only when I was typing the "@" symbol on secured websites (with the WSA icon diplaying the yellow padlock). Now that the padlock is on all the time, it happens on any website...

    Hi all :) ,

@@ (LOL) Mat, Anarion, Doraemon, Pierrequiroule: Do you use an AZERTY keyboard instead of a QWERTY one as spread in the U.S?
@@Joe: additionnaly, on my French keyboard, i must click 3 times on the key/letter "A" (= Q on a QWERTY keyboard) to get it to appear in my browsers. Cause the issue only happens in WSA protected browsers and not in notepad or word for example.
I'm sure that WSA is not fully compatible with the AZERTY keyboards whatever the language is:rolleyes:
Thanks Joe for trying to solve this problem with your team.

What do you mean by "AZERTY" or "QWERTY" keyboard, and how can you tell the difference? I never heard of that before.

    Thanks!

Sure, obviously. There are many differences. After all, it's different layout. I never meant to imply that the only difference is just few special characters because that's not the case.

Thanks for the info. I can now tell you that I use a QWERTY keyboard with some French characters. And, in order to type the "@" character, I need to use the following keys: AltCar + @.
    Does it tell you anything?

I've been reporting this for well...over a year. Don't hold your breath for a fix.
I also have an AZERTY-keyboard and as language Belgian Keyboard (period).

Eventually, this, the firewall bug the numlock bug and the reduced typing speed made me give up on WSA for now.

It drove the people I got WRSA for nuts after a while. The last drop was installing Tinywall only to be greeted by a BSOD every few hours. It seems there is a price to pay for the level of sophistication WRSA offers.

Don't get me wrong, I trust they will resolve the bugs at some point and I'm still rooting for them.

    Hi Jeroen.

I also have a Belgian AZERTY keyboard.

From my personal experience, I can confirm that the reduced typing speed is now fixed and has been for some time

I’d never tested the numeric keypad as my main laptop doesn’t have one and my other PC, being an older Dell laptop, had the numeric keys superimposed in blue over some of the keys on the standard keyboard and are activated by using the Function key, which I therefore hardly ever used. However I now have briefly tested these numeric keys, and they appear to be working fine.

So it appears those two problems are happily resolved. However…the problem of the Alternative Graphic characters stubbornly remains. For those who are non-plussed as to what I am talking about, let me explain: on continental keyboards, a special AltGr (=Alternative Graphics) key serves as an alternative shift key with certain number keys (not the numeric keypad but the top row keys) to create an alternative set of characters such as foreign accents, the € symbol and particularly the @ sign. So, to obtain a @ on a Belgian keyboard for example, you simultaneously press the AltGr key and 2. The problem occurs when WSA Identity Shield is turned on which it now always is when you are using a web browser. When you type a web address or email address or whatever in Firefox, as soon as you choose any one of these Alternative Graphic characters, @ for example, it is doubled. In IE and Chrome, there is no doubling of the character (except for the first time you enter one of these characters) but rather a nasty noise of complaint which Windows calls the Default Bleep. So basically it is indeed a problem related to Identity Shield as Joe intimated in his post above.

Joe, you are a really great chap (without you and Mel Morris, there would be no WSA) and your patient presence is literally weighed in gold by those of us on this Wilders Forum, but every time we have mentioned this one (and it now goes back more than a year), you reply with words to the effect that this will be “hopefully resolved in the next, or one of the next, builds”. Please, is it not time that this issue was leveraged up to the top of the list of to-do jobs for the Webroot programmers?? Hopefully…

Do not write the numlock bug off yet. I have only uninstalled WRSA about 2 weeks ago. From information I have gathered through the people where it was installed (and I can confirm 1 case at least), it still pops up intermittently when Java Virtual Machine is involved when browsing the web.

Now for the slow typing speed. I'm using the MightyText website (HTTPS of course) for SMSing with my Android phone (it's so much easier that way). And many a times, the space does not register as quickly as ordinary letters do. That makes me type sentences like:

    Heyh ow arey ou?

Where I am most certain I did hit the space key after the first y and before the "h" of the word "how".

I mainly experience the above as reduced typing speed. But I never heard people complain when typing in Microsoft Word so it is probably once more related to the browser.

So the Windows error sound issue (instead of double characters in Internet Explorer 10 I get windows error/warning/notification sound) has been there too for over one year... Not good.

Without trying to sound redundant, we are working on these fixes. They're difficult as they've been quite isolated so far with few reports and difficult to reproduce (requiring localized hardware/OSs). We have a few changes coming in the next build and I'd definitely be interested to hear how everyone fares after updating when released.

I was surprised to hear that these incidents were “quite isolated”, particularly as the problem is on both my computers, so I have been asking around to those I know directly or indirectly who use WSA with an AZERTY (French or Belgian French) keyboard. Whilst I have only so far managed to get three responses, they apparently confirm what you say, as surprisingly none of them have encountered the same problem as me and all of us posting on this and other related threads.

So yes Joe, I now understand what you mean when you say this is an "isolated" case. I had assumed this was a problem with all AZERTY keyboards, that is, all French-speaking WSA users (and therefore very urgent if you are wishing to market WSA internationally), but now I understand that this is not the case.

I (and I’m sure we) appreciate the work that is going in to resolve this problem. I’ll certainly let you know if the next build resolves the issue.

By the way, if a Webroot programmer would like to do a remote session on one of my computers in order to duplicate the problem and investigate further, they will be most welcome :)

It would be about time to get it fixed.
