Lighest Antivirus?

Hey,
I wonder which is the Lightest (Resource) Antivirus in realtime?

Is it NOD32?

or is Dr.web or F-prot lighter?

 

F-Prot should be the lightest I think....

 

Any idea how much lighter?

 

Some people report that it uses about 4MB of memory in total........

 

Off the three you mention, Dr Web is the one with the least impact on resources on my pc, it might be different on yours, they should all be considered "light".

 

i haven't try Dr.Web yet, ( dont have time right now ) but F prot with some tweak and could get below 3mb on my PC. ( Serach for it as it has already be discussed )

CPU resources are minimal ( or i would say non existence ), how ever general smoothness of the AV depends on what other software you had installed. For NOD32 does a slightly better job overall on my Laptop.

 

The next version of KAV (KAV 6) will be the lightest

 

eTrust works very light too, then F-Prot... NOD32 for some reason kinda hogged my system when I copied files to my external HDD, but overall it was light.

F-Prot is the lightest. NOD32 is no longer in the category of light. It's bloated and slow. It used to be very light and very fast, but with the implementation of the totally unnecessary HTTP scanner, it became very slow. My XP pro box was brought to its knees by that horrible HTTP scanner. Whereas, KAV 4.5 was so light, I didn't even know it was on my box and I had it configured to the max. NOD32 also went from an 8 min scan to 43 minutes and I had only slightly more files for it to scan. NOD 32 uses about 30,000 kb memory.

 

You can turn off the http scanner of course...and I'm starting to think like that just a few days ago. NOD wants to download everything first before letting the thing go on... I'm not happy with that too, because it indeed slows everything down.

 

different pc setups, different experiences i guess. nod32 is running perfectly for me. memory usage is about 17mb and scan times are excellent.

NOD32, being as customisable as it is, lets you use whatever modules you like. If the http scanner isnt working for you, then there are options to tweak, and if that doesnt work it can just be turned off.

 

Yes, you can turn it off, but you can also change how the http module (IMON) works. If the 'higher efficiency' setting isnt working out then you can change it to 'higher compatibility'.

Wow - you really might consider getting that computer looked at... My NOD is using less than 14k kb memory and I have nothing disabled, all settings to high/deep heuristics. I scan 1 40 (89% free space) gig drive and two 120s (25% and 38% free) in less than 20 minutes with full/deep settings.

 

NOD32 is using around 17K KB memory right now, I'm running Opera and browsing the Net, and also playing music on WMP at the moment.

I see no slowdown at all, and even the On-Demand Scanner is very fast for me.

 

I`m browsing and downloading right now and Nod`s at 16. I can`t ask for better then that.

 

Yes for the majority of computer users NOD still is very light, of course it will not run excellent on every computer. But from my experience and from user opinion on this forum, that is defiantly not the norm.

I'm probably missing something here but why are two instances of explorer and firefox running?

 

I never understood how you guys have such fast scan times....
Is my computer that slow? (AthlonXP 2000+, 512mb DDR, 80gb HD 87% full, 1% fragmented).
2-3 hours is fast for me (F-Prot, don't remember trying NOD32 with a full scan). 6-9 hours is the slowest (KAV).
