I think that Microsoft is cash-rich. Instead of paying dividends, it maybe better to deploy the cash in acquisitions. It may get lucky and improve it's status on Wall Street.

    That sounds very interesting.

This is really all I look forward to. I have to use Skype daily and any improvements Microsoft can do are very welcomed.

    Since I don't use Skype, I won't be jumping! :D

I'm sure many will before MS even release a new version, simply because it's "M$". ;)

I don't use Skype, but I do feel kinda sorry for all the people who depend on its low cost. That ship has definitely sailed.

Ah! So that's the downside. M$ triumphs again! I personally don't use Skype, but I know a lot of people who do, predominantly because of it cheapness.

"If, instead, Microsoft predictably turns Skype into Windows Messenger Live Video Vista Professional Edition, then we will have watched one of the most exciting products developed in the last century killed off in the interest of it’s shareholders." ~ Reuters

I have a sad feeling that the ship has not so much sailed; but has been torpedoed by the U-Boat of M$ LOL! ;)

    The Register's POV

Looking at some of the other titles on The Register's homepage, I would want to know if they're in anyway related to The Sun.

The Register is well known for its satirical tabloid-like style.

I really would like to see an announcement about plans.

IMHO Skype integration would be awesome (WP7, Xbox etc). There is no reason why a stand alone skype app could not continue to be maintained (especially for alternate [non-MS] platforms.

A lot of people care about Skype. I suppose this kind of acquisition was inevitable though eventually.

    It's not a good scenario ...
