FreeBSD 7.0 - Cannot compile anti-virus modules: Base file missing"

Hello, I just downloaded the esets.i386.fbs7.tgz.bin package and installed it. When I try to start the AV this error comes:

Starting ESET Security for FreeBSD: esets_daemonerror[0b350000]: Cannot compile anti-virus modules: Base file missing.
.

The esets_update command gives this error:
Error creating temporary file.

Any ideas?

try to manage permissions on temporary folder where your AV try to create file. Use chmod, chown etc.

what tells you:

sudo tail -f /var/log/messages

try to find similar to kernel log, esetdaemon log file. When you find it try, for example :

 sudo tail -f /var/log/esetd

, where esetd is the name of eset daemon logfile.

The only message I see in /var/log/messages is this when I try to start the service.

May 18 12:03:57 mail esets_daemon[4922]: error[133a0000]: Cannot compile anti-virus modules: Base file missing.

Yes, eset_daemon reports kernel that it can't update normaly. But here should be also eset logfile that fully describes problem with temporary file creation.

Yeah there is a esets folder inside /var/log but it's empty.

strange, maybe it is empty because eset daemon do not start? i think you need to talk to ESET engineers who developed this package for Linux platform. I think they all know where eset_daemon try to create temporary file while update.

Also you can try to find config file for eset daemon. Search in /etc folder. Maybe in that file you can find an answer for your question.

To solve the this error you must edit av_update_username and av_update_password from /etc/esets/esets.cfg then update eset from /usr/sbin/esets_update.

Tested on Slakware 9.1 + Eset Mail Security 3.0.15
