FAT32 to NTFS

I want to convert a populated FAT32 partition to NTFS, but DD's Convert only offers FAT16. As I can even do this from XP's command line I'm a bit puzzled as to why I can't do it in DD.

Or am I missing something obvious?

 

DD won't do a FAT32 to NTFS conversion.

Make sure you have a current backup image of the drive before you begin.

If your FAT32 partition is data only (no OS involved) then you may find it easier to just copy the data off temporarily, reformat the partition as NTFS, then copy the data back.

 

Thanks both. I simply did it from the command line with convert E: /fs:ntfs. DD is such a great program - well compared with PM8 anyway - I just couldn't believe it couldn't do it.

 

Did you check the cluster size after conversion? You probably won't want 512 byte clusters. 4 kB or larger will be more efficient.

 

I read the other thread after I'd done the conversion, so yes I will take a look at that.

EDIT - It's already 4KB after the conversion
