MS Defender is out the window. Spywareprotection in Outpost is also disable since a while back.

After several tests I now stick to my 3 apps for protection.

    Best Regards

Re: This weeks Security software you have ?

I was doing it too, few months ago.... But since I've Rollback Rx, I'm running several setups at the same time, in 3-4 different groups of snapshots! :

I've one with just Antivir 7 and Jetico, one with Avast and Jetico, one with Avast, Jetico and OA AV+, one with Kerio 4 and Avast, one with Antivir, Jetico and CyberHawk, one with Antivir, Jetico and Socketshield, one with Antivir, Jetico and ProSecurity 1.0.4 (and another with 1.0.5!! :D ), one with Antivir, Jetico and Defensewall, one with the same 3 plus Process Guard full and Regdefend (trial), one with Kaspersky IS 6, and I'm on my way to make one with Bitdefender 10 beta ;) ... I had more lately (I had another "group" with AVG, etc), but I did remove few other programs while deleting some snapshots...

So, yes, I like to change my softs often too :D

    Cheers,
    nicM

At the moment I am very happy with the setup as in my signature (all real time, low mem and high cpu idle)
Bit I don't have a firewall (turned XP firewall on for the moment), but do I need one?

Update. Any new one's in bold. These are resident/permanent.

ZA Free version 6(was Kerio 4)

    BOClean
    Regrun Platinum
    SuperAdBlocker(New from 20th March 06)
    CookieWall
    SpywareBlaster

I also use a few apps for on-demand scans. Mainly:
    SuperAntiSpyware Pro

    NOD32
    Security Task Manager
Remove Duplicates from Outlook Express(Guess what this one does ;) ).

    Update:

I have again added AntiVir Classic to my realtime setup, the new version is working a lot smoother on my system. So this is my realtime defense at the moment (I´m not happy yet though :shifty: ):

AntiVir Classic | Process Guard (free) | ZoneAlarm Pro | Arovax Shield

Other tools that are promising but still need some work:

    Kaspersky AV 6
    System Safety Monitor 2
    Neoava Guard
    ProSecurity

I would also like to add a sandboxing/virtualization tool to my setup, but none of the tools are good enough yet, at least not when it comes to my criteria. Most promising tools:

Sandboxie (Currently I use it only "on demand")
    BufferZone (resource hog)
DefenseWall (GUI needs to be improved)

And btw, WehnTrust also sounds like a nice tool. But I still need to test it for possible compatibility problems.

Other tools that I´ve tested but did not impress me (or didn´t match my criteria) are :

    - Appdefend/Regdefend (don´t like the GUI)

    - Prevx1 (Annoying, plus I don´t like the whole community thing)

    - Online Armor (not what I'm looking for)

    - Windows Defender (resource hog, unhandy GUI)

    - SocketShield (would be nice if it was freeware)

    - Virtual Sandbox (Don´t like the way it works)

    - GESWall (horrible GUI)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tools that might replace Ad Aware and Spybot S&D on my system:

    - A squared Anti Malware (might use it for on demand scanning)

    - Ewido Anti Malware (might use it for on demand scanning)

I have gone with a minimalistic approach

    Realtime

Hardware Firewall/Router built from old computer parts running BrazilFW (Linux distro that can run on 486, floppy, and 16megs of ram, although I run it on CF card, not much you can't use it for-highly configurable)
    Jetico Personal Firewall
    NOD32 Anti-Virus
    Appdefend Beta w/ free RD
    SpywareBlaster (doesn't use resources)
Firefox w/ NoScript & Stylish(uses Adblock rules without the resources)

    On-demand

    Acronis TI 8
    ewido
    a-squared

I have stopped running any anti-spyware for the last six months and I don't miss their bloat at all. My setup is very minimal and is all about prevention with a few backup measures. I have been running this type of setup for a few months now. It passes all leaktests and DFK Threat Simulator. The only dangerous stuff that I've seen on my system was either false positives, or I already knew what it was.

Hey Brandon, can you check if you're getting high cpu usage of oasrv.exe while running ewido active. I get high cpu usage and well you have the same setup. Also in reguards to A-Squared Anti-Malware beta and Ewido Anti-Malware beta, what are you using each for. I mean Ewido is better than A-Squared in the trojan area, but A-Squared is known for its good IDS feature. You're not using any of those two for a dedicated anti-spyware or anti-adware are you?

Hey WSFuser, are you using Spysweeper Beta 5? Also what version of RegRun Gold are you using? I found out that RegRun Gold 4.6 was giving CPU spikes on mine.

desktop: geswall (free), antivir (free), comodo firewall(free), SUPErantispyware (free)

laptop: geswall (free), antivir (free), jetico firewall (free), SUPERantispyware (free)

    notes:
    1) bufferzone (free) is a good substitute for geswall, but like rasheed said it's kind of a resource hog
    2) i love both comodo and jetico, the reason why i don't have comodo on my laptop is cause it's a little heavy on the ram usage
