Nod32 eval questions..

I was running bitdefender but thought I would try Nod32.

Does Nod32 have a firewall running as well like bitdefender or do I have to buy a firewall as well if I buy Nod32?

Also, bitdefender had a really nice spam monitor in outlook express where you could tag each e-mail that got through as spam by hitting the spam button. I really like that! Does Nod32 have anything like this?

Any bitdefender users here? Why did you switch or do you use both?

I have been trialing NOD32 for almost a month on one computer and the month expired on this desktop.

It does not have a firewall. I use LooknStop on one and Kerio 2.1.5 free on the other. Both run well with NOD. NOD is a superb AV in my opinion. Evidently you have the BD suite considering the firewall.

I am not aware of the email option you mentioned for BD, but NOD does have an email shield. I am not aware of all it does. Someone from ESET will let you know the answer to that.

I used BD for slightly over a year, and renewed my license, but began to have some compatibility problems that caused me to stop using it, and try NOD, and now KAV 6.

If BD runs well on your machine then I would continue to use it. It is an excellent AV, and the customer support is excellent in my experience. I was not willing to ditch so many of my other programs to stay with it.

I have to say that NOD runs even better than BD even when BD was running well on my machine. Shutting down after updating was a little bothersome but not enough to ditch it. NOD has slightly better detection rates according to AV Comparatives. Overall I do like it better than BD.

Others here with more knowledge and experience can give you some good information, and you might ask the questions on the NOD32 forum if you do not get answers here, which I think you will.

I am also liking KAV6.

I am running BD Prof on one box and Nod32 (present from Wilders ) on my other box. They both do perform very well, no issues, no resource eaters (which I still don't understand what that means), not slowing down etc.
Though I will renew both licenses for each machine, which means Nod this summer and BD 8/2007.
And.. have a BD lisence for my laptop as well for free.
Finally I don't want to go in a: what's best/better discussion as seen here very often.

You can purchase NOD32 V3 security suit when it's done, or just the regular antivirus when it's done. So it will have a firewall & spamfilter + the other things that suits usually have.

I have read countless posts and reports on nod vs bd and they are both really close and the best out there it seems. I did a trial of BD and I really really liked it. I did end up getting a rootkit virus but I might have got that before I loaded BD. I tried the BD Internet Security package which is their top of the line software. Yes it was slow but I don't think it slowed my machine down much. I'm really leaning toward BD I think. Maybe I'll try it for a year and then try Nod32 V3 for a year. I love them both but BD really put a lot into the interface and all that. There is no reason Nod32 could not do the same and maybe that's what is coming in V3.

Hi, I want to ask, no antispyware/ adware component in it or proactive defence like that in KIS?

 

Of course there will be adware/spyware protection. We already have it now so why should they remove it?

But how good is NOD in this regard practically? I tried with some spywares but it was pretty silent. Does this option is enabled by default. Also is it only for on-deamnd scanner, not on-access scanner?

 

It's for both.

 

NOD32 has already been "anti-threat" for a long time..instead of just "anti-virus".

 

Last time i used nod (before christmas) it wasnt that good (imo) at detecting ad/spyware compared to antivir or kav despite its claims or awards.Im not sure if IBKs "other malware" covers this at avcomparatives?,if not it would be good for a seperate test of those that do have ad/spyware sigs.

now NOD32 is quite good at detecting spywares/adwares. I've tested myself and they also got the ICSA Lab certification for detecting Ad/Spy.

 

Thats good news.I remember when i was using nod and started a thread about the bonzibuddy installer dropping whenu.save,which nod didnt detect(at that time even adaware was still detecting it i believe).

There didnt seem to be much support for it in that thread ,and the general consensus was "use a dedicated " adware/spyware programe.That rather took some credibility off its claims that it could protect against such threats for me..Its nice to know that it has inded got better though.
