Dr Web

I bit the bullet and bought a license. At $9.99 for a 2 user license it's not bad in my country. I don't know when I will come around to giving it a try though, but I will keep you all updated as and when I install the product on any of my computers. The license for Dr.Web Security Space seems to also include a license for the paid version of Dr.Web for mobiles, so that is a nice added bonus.

 

Dr Web is great at finding those killer malware that others seem to fail at. Contact support as they have become very customer oriented and may be able to point you in the direction of a deal. Mention you are a member here.

But dont expect them to give it away free. It is a niche product and you pay for the ability to have what I think, is one of the strongest antivirus products out there.

 

Any dr web users have problems with ssl scanning enabled?.I want it enabled to scan ssl mail which works nicely but its causing certification errors on every https site.Anyone else seeing this?Im using trial version and liking it apart from this.

Thanks for the link ,but i was hoping a user here might be able to confirm whether this behaviour is normal,rather than having to join the drweb forum for the answer as im just trialing it.Its an easy matter of ticking "check encrypted traffic" in settings>main>advanced.As i say its great for checking secure mail but why is firefox not accepting dr web certificate for https sites?Id like to know whether this happens for other users or something that just happens on my setup.

Unfortunately no, you cannot. These are retail box prices for my country from local dealers. They *may* however start an eStore soon (right now it's early days for Dr.Web in my country). Meanwhile, you can get *slightly* cheaper prices from this link:

Tests, especially static detection will not help, and are mostly interesting for av fans battles: 98% for Dr Web, 99% for Kav or Bitdefender is only a result of detection against X malwares at day D...
I fact we need to consider the origin of some cybercrime, especially botnets, rootkits, trojans bankers and carding, and like the roulette and the Kalash, a Russian speciality...

To my understanding from that website, the price for Dr.Web Desktop Security (one year, 5 PC - minimal, complex protection) would be 2,140.00 pesos = US$103.00, it is 5pc one-year license... not that cheap after all.

 

Seems like firefox isn't allowing the secured connection because of a cert issued by Dr. Web? Maybe try adding an excemption for Dr.Web issued certs?

Firefox asks for every individual https site.I cant seem to allow an exception globally.Not sure why theres a problem with the certificate?.I would like other dr web users to test too ,so that i can rule out whether its just happening for me.

 

even the one site you posted offers a 50% discount but its still more than 35$ for one year for one pc for just the anti virus. at a 50% discount thats crazy imo

 

I have to believe in a very minor way Dr Web is marketing itself somewhat like apple products. They are charging a premium compared to other AV vendors. Something like 1.5x to 2x more than regular AV vendors MSRP.

In their minds & market studies this is generating as much or more revenue as they would if their prices were in line with everybody else's. Also they're adding to their bottom line because less licenses means less support calls they have to pay people to answer. This makes sense to me.

 

I always got the feeling that Dr.Web does not hold a particular interest in the international consumer market.

 

I live in Seoul and when I google Dr Web antivirus I get the price of 26 Euros which is about $ 35 USD for a year. It seems to me a reasonable price in line with other products.

Yes that's the price on their online store, and it is quite reasonable.

I haven't used Dr Web for a while, and last time I used it I found it too heavy for my liking. But, I do like the product and first used it 20 years ago (for DOS).

 

Dr. Web prices become unreasonable when you consider licenses of greater than 1 PC.

 

You are right, I didn't pay attention to this aspect, already 3 licenses is almost 103 USD, although I guess most home users would buy one license. It is very strange marketing indeed, after all they are selling software, it's not the same as selling 3 identical hard drives (as an example) whereby manufacturing costs would make selling with a big discount unprofitable.

Well it's their business after all, but I can't see how they can expect people to trust their software without some kind of test. Bitdefender and Trendmicro are excellent lately but they haven't been great for years on end. Tests may not say the whole story but they do offer a strong indication about the level of efficacy of an AV at a particular point in time.
