    Back to Avast! Free:thumb:

I like Avira. As of right now its my Number 2 AV and my personal backup.
I'm just a sucker for the streaming updates that avast! has. Makes me feel about 90% more secure:D

So far can't complain about it. I'm more a HIPS advocate then AV's. Been that way since HIPS first hit the scene. But this 360 IS is lite, sports a right click context scan, and if it's detections hold up it might be a keeper. I not tortured it yet but will put some pressure to in the days and weeks ahead.

Triple Engine coverage is.pretty cool, maybe even practical if they keep it lite as it is right now.

    On one my PC:
    Router
    Windows 7 Firewall
    Avast free
    Eaz-Fix (snapshot time machine)

Avast free feels much lighter on this PC then CIS 6.1. Avast :thumb:

Another older but still useful Windows 98 program. It's incredible. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Scriptrap w/360 IS scan on demand function.

Been exploring other ways to use scriptrap similar to a HIPS since it does have a whitelist. Version 1.03 and archaic but effective on Windows any version.

I have returned to comodo firewall 5.12 and avira free.

I think i may give up on CIS 6 as the cpu usage is far too high for my liking.
Plus i have encountered more bugs.

I shall stick with v5,12 as it is more stable and reliable.

That's amazing! How long do you use this setup? Do you do AV scans? If you do then what do they show?

Used this for a few months now.
NVT and K9 are nailed down. (password protected)
Scan weekly with usual tools (MBAM/Hitman), only show tracking cookies :)

Thank heavens for NVT - best software for a long time

Something that hasn't happened in a long time, I had a major malware attack last night, computer started acting wonky, froze, rebooted itself. WSA had caught 20 or 30 things all at the same time and put them in quarantine. After deleting them, scans with WSA, MBAM and HMP didn't find anything else. I'll do a couple of more scans with other programs later today, and then save some things and install a saved image.

I had probably taken a file out of the sandboxed download folder earlier without checking it first. Kind of impressive how it was programmed to go off all at once, flooding the defense. Makes me think about putting Mamutu, an old favorite, back on as another layer.

Yeah jmonge, I'm impressed that Webroot was able to handle it with no remnants left that I've found yet. Funny thing is that when I first looked at the quarantine list it flashed and then went blank. I saw Zeus on the list. Was the malware trying to interfere with WSA? I rebooted and the list flashed again but this time came back on and I was able to delete everything. Pretty interesting, it felt like watching a battle in the cyber-war play out.

edit: To check on Zeus, I ran Kaspersky TDSSKILLER and nothing was found. A run of RogueKiller found a few things but not sure if they were malicious and related to this attack. They were deleted and surprisingly the computer still runs.

later: Emsisoft Emergency Kit didn't find anything. Added Mamutu, so far not seeing any conflicts with the behavior blocker in WSA. So overall things have turned out well considering what could have happened.
