    Simple but effective for me:

    Router with Firewall and NAT
    Windows 7 Home Premium x64
MSE (now running Beta for MSE 2.0)
    PC Tools Firewall
    Opera (latest version -now 10.60-)

Currently using KIS 2011 with CF1 and on demand (if needed) MBAM and CCleaner. I am using a Dell Inspiron 1440 with Windows 7. I have to say that I have had absolutely no issues or difficulties loading these programs, updating etc. Maybe it's the ease of Windows 7...I started with BitDefender, KAV 2010, KIS2010, and now 2011. Maybe it's luck!

    Thanks

How do you like Opera? I have never used it...essentially use IE, and now FireFox and some Google Chrome.

Well, If you try it, you'll LoVe it, I guarantee.
Without the need for extensions Opera has mouse gestures, add blocking, passwords manager, a Mail Client with HTML support, visual tabs, it can search for anything you have visited on your web quests like for example particular words inside a web page you visited long ago... a Download manager with Bit Torrent client, a trash can to recover closed tabs within a session, of course, a sessions manager, Notes, Widgets, It looks amazing on Win7 with it's visual tabs and taskbar integration... what can I say, it is also FAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSST. Very fast.

I've used since version 6 so Imagine I'm very happy with it.

Pretty much the same here on wife's laptop (3 year old Dell Inspiron Athlon x52 with 2GB RAM)

Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits own internals
    - Windows FW two way (thanks Stem)
    - Running LUA with prompt for ADMIN credentials at elevation
    - SRP deny execute Users and Program Data directories
    - ACL deny execute for Users group (right click security tab) on same directories
    - Some Group Policy hardening (e.g. Autorun disallow legacy aps at startup, No user logon script, etc) DEP, SEHOP

MSE at default settings, only added auto scan on removable devices

Using Iron as browser with McFee SiteAdvisor with the Vista/Windows 7 basic theme

Only other software installed Word/PowerPoint/Excel/Outlook 2010 - Syncback SE Free - Sony Ericson phone synchronise - Adobe flash/reader - PDF creator (and WIn7 defaults WMP12 - Win7 DVD maker). Real lean setup. surprisingly snappy for a three year old laptop.

you either need a antivirus for real time shield or get proactive protection:) such hips/sandbox/virtualization programs any of those would be ok

I have updated my protection system.

    1. KIS 2011 CF1 (11.0.1.400) interactive mode and manually configured HIPS, Firewall, Custom Scan, and Exclusions for my personal needs. Offline updates via Kaspersky Updater 2.2.0.72.
    2. Manually configured WinPatrol 2010 18.1.2010 for supplementary protection as well as useful delayed start feature.
    3. Returnil Virtual System 2010 3.1.8774.5254 to virtualize my system most of the time. I disable safe system only for Windows/Software Updates + for KIS updates (every 3 days). It also helps me try new software(s) before actual install on my system.
    4. Sandboxie 3.46 for virtual browsing suspicious sites, although I use KIS sandbox mostly.
    5. Firefox 3.6.x (latest build) with ABP, No Script, Better Privacy, Memory fox + Office 2010 theme.
    6. All software updated, especially Antivirus (KIS 11.0.1.400), Windows 7 x64 (Windows Updates), Java (JRE 6 Update 21 x86), Firefox (Firefox 3.6.7), and Flash Players (Flash Player 10.1.53.64, Flash ActiveX Player 10.1.53.64, and Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5.7.609 Slim).
    7. Trying Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46 in virtual system for supplementary protection against notorious cyber-threats.
    8. I prefer x64 architecture over x86 due to increased baseline protection.
    9. Common sense and updated knowledge, the most important things against latest threats.

I am protected very well and got no infection since I have choose KIS (6 MP2) since 2006.

Why people are running that much applications, I would go crazy with that many icons in my task bar.
1, 6 , 8 (+ using system integrated security options), 9 will keep you safe from any trouble for sure.

Only three icons in tray (KIS+WinPatrol+Returnil). Not too much application. No slow down of the computer. No notorious popups or distraction.

Turned off Defender, added Avast with 3 shields: File, Network, and Behavior. Avast and Prevx are running at 14,000k total.:thumb:

EDIT: What the heck?! Now they are down to 8,400k total. That can't be right can it?
