After setting up something for a friend I am testing this setup at the moment

    Router tightly configured
Image backup Paragon, Data backup Syncback, external off line harddisk, backup once a month

Software: XP Pro SP3 with some SRP rules running admin (fun to see how GW catches these rules :)

    Windows XP firewall

GeSWall Pro, with outbound protection for trusted aps, set mail folders as confidential, limited Chrome to only access D:\Downloads directory, allowed DRM directory for IE8 and WMP10, also set \Device\NamedPipe\lsass to allow for those two to save my acquired (paid) DRM burning/playing rights. set GW to auto terminate attacks, no notifications (so absolutely quiet, used Zone Alarm free to determine whch trusted executables to allow full access to network, afterwards removed)

Avira V9 free set to check at write only, heuristics high, using smart extension list

Spyware Terminator free with shields set to auto block/allow except service-driver, autostart and file extensions (ask user), no HIPS, no installaton recognistion, added webbrowser shield of Crawler for IE, hidden toolbar and removed all crawler junk (now screen darkens as with Vista LUA elevation pop-up when a known dangeroeus site is visited), no check at searches, using all web site rating databases (PhishTank, Google, Crawler webshield db), set google as seach engine).

Using IE8 for banking and on-line shopping (did not install Keyscrambler anymore, because web access of mail for her work can't read keystrokes, pitty) and Chromium for daily browsing

Runs very light, GW is main defense, with Avira checking downloaded known malware (do not want my wife to spread malware) and ST to warn when she would fall into social engineering installs.

    Cheers

For instance setting your shared directory of limewire in SRP as limited, makes GeSWall show them as untrusted (with red logo box)

It is an anti-rootkit AND anti-spyware program :D

My Firefox has WOT and Adblock add-ons, to protect me from realtime phishing and illegitimate sites :D :thumb:

Also, common sense and safe surfing habits :thumb:
