I have it heard on here that it is best advised to download programs from the program's official site only. But there are several other download sites as well. Which is your favorite? If your favorite site is not listed please choose "other" and state which site it is.
I prefer to download directly from the vendor but then again many "smaller" operators only provide downloads from download.com or softpedia.
I really don't see any reason to use a download site, and I certainly wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Use the software company's official sites only. And if the official site redirects you to some download site, then that is their official download location and entirely ok.
FWIW- I just uninstalled BitDefender antivirus 2010. After uninstalling via the programs uninstall option I then downloaded the BD 2010 uninstall tool from the BD site as well as from Softpedia. The one from Softpedia was a larger download than from the BD site even though they were both supposed to be the same tool. I then ran the uninstall tool from the BD site and it found nothing. Then I ran the one downloaded from softpedia and it found left over BD files and registry entries and removed them.
I normally look things up on Softpedia, their screenshots are very comprehensive plus you can find a large amount of comparable software to choose from. From there i hop to the vendor.
I wish voting for more than one was allowed. File Hippo got my vote, but I also use several others (Softpedia, Major Geeks, and Sourceforge) regularly.
You forgot to add Fileforum/Betanews also Spychecker (part of snapfiles) There are thousands more the poll you have can't support that many. Fileforum is the best because users can rate the software.
You can rate software on Major Geeks and Snap Files too. Snap Files allows reviews if you have an account.
I try to download only from the software's official site. This can a problem when I need to re-instal Kerio 2.1.5,have some how lost my exe,and have to go to "Last Known Free Ware Version." Failing the official site,I prefer Softpedia, and Snapfiles.
I voted only from the offical site, but if I'm trying to find some type of program I use Softpedia. Otherwise I know what the name of the program is so I get it from their own site.
Usually I prefer going to the product's official sites, but in fact, I subscribed to a medium number of RSS feeds from download sites on my FeedBurner. The File Hippo one is my favorite.
