I use three about equaly, but i am very particular to the software I download from these sites. majorGeeks Filehippo Tucows
I use MG almost always. I trust the site to be free from any droppsies. Years ago filehippo & softpedia sites used to drop nasties. Probably no more. And snapfile didn't vet the programs they offered. I know this is all outdated info. But that's why I download from MG almost always. And am extra careful when downloading elsewhere.
I am not doubting your info but nothing I DL'd from snapfiles ever contained malware...FWIW. Could be that I was just lucky.
I always try to go to the product's developer page whenever possible. As far as download sites I like filehippo the best for download but softpedia also because there are usually a lot more screenshots of the product
I don't know what you mean by "vet the program".... http://www.snapfiles.com/adware_spyware_concerns.html If the program they offer is supported by ad toolbars or the like, they do warn you right on the programs little preview/download page. Also hit major geeks now 'n then, as well as download.com and cnet.
Ditto. In reverse order, though, usually. Developer's site usually yields latest info / builds, but I trust MajorGeeks for their DL content & integrity.
I use the vendor's site, majorgeeks and softpedia. All files I download are still scanned by my AV, 2 on demand scanners and/or uploaded to virustotal or jotti.
i check for updates with Update notifiers and if there is any update available, ill download it from authors website. More secure
Filehippo for me. I mainly use for downloading freewares like CCleaner,Utorrent,7-zip,Winamp................etc. For trials softpedia is best.
I prefer going to the product's official sites, but in fact, I subscribed to a number of RSS feeds from download sites on my FeedBurner. The File Hippo one is my favorite.
