I am baffled by what it appears Lavasoft has done here. They apparently bought a pretty shady registry cleaner/pc optimizer called SpeedingUpMyPC, and it is now their new product PC Optimizer. I know this because I downloaded a trial of PC Optimizer and ESET blocked it, and the file that was quarantined was speedingupmypc.

Wow, what's going on here? I always trusted Lavasoft in the past. This is not a good turn of events.

    Hello,

Perhaps the company's Wikipedia Entry will be of assistance in clarifying this.

    Regards,

Not sure I'd trust it to upgrade my COM port driver!

It clearly is a rebrand of Smart Driver Updater (which you show the screenshots of), and Avanquest's driver updater is also a rebrand of this.

There is much better driver update software around, and I don't know why they would choose one which does not work very well.

Also if you have a look at the webpage for their PC Optimizer they state:
If Lavasoft are using highly misleading statements to sell their products, it's probably best stay away from all of their products both free and paid.

I'd never trust any of these things to update a system. There are times when a system is working well and mucking around will just break something.

Or a driver update might add an option that now affects something else.

Too make things worse, some of the driver "updates" this finds, are actually older than the drivers already installed, due to a serious bug in the program.
