    I voted no.

Functionality first and security second for me.

I want to the thing to work first. Security is worked around what is installed.

I wouldn't say security was the priority for me, but hell, I may as well worry about computer security as well as about global warming, the recession, international terrorism, the rise of obscurantism, extremists, potential global flu epidemics, rapidly closing public houses, the NHS, globalisation & the mysterious disappearance of cheese & tomato flavoured Pot Noodle. ;)

Who said anything about products? That word is not in the poll!

But the syntax of the question is flawed if the OP meant products he/she should of said so.

IF we allow product then my next ? would be what product?

If it is an Anti virus product then I can answer that security is # 1

If it is a car then I want one I can get into and that fits in my garage.

    So # 2 functionality

    Security
    Performance
    Features
    Ease of use
    GUI

    In that order.

It's a balance. Ultimately, I use my computer for work and gaming. It has to do those things, or it's useless to me. My priority is to get the functions I want, then I secure it. I don't have an intricate security setup, but it works well for me. I can't even remember the last time I had malware; maybe back in the day, but never on Windows Vista or 7.

However, I'm still interested in security because I find it intriguing.

Joining the thread late meant I did not read the posts in the thread before responding. Normally would not read them anyway so as to not bias myself!

IMHO, the poll options wording should not have to depend on a second post to clarify it.

That is like a plebiscite which poses a question to be voted on that is in need of further explanation.

You are right on this. I always think about this possibility when making polls.

That really should be a forum rule.

The poll has a word limit.

It was literally in the first sentence.

Everyone else was able to answer lol

Just some examples of polls with more words than this that didn't get stopped by the filter.

I left the poll question open for a reason. So that you can answer it in a broad sense.

Is security a priority for you?

This can apply to your operating system, your applications, what hardware you choose, whatever.

Most people in the topic seemed to understand that. If you didn't, I'm gonna say that's on you.

Honestly, if you (this goes for anyone, not calling any person in particular out) can't be bothered to read the first post in my topics... please stay out of them. I'd love it if you would read them and post in them, but I don't want someone whining that a topic title isn't informative enough when the first post contains plenty of information.

I understood, lol. My replies are on the first page.

Just saying that some people may not (like Escalader) for whatever reason, and that the forum should enforce a rule about descriptive questions on polls.

Escalader can read the 15 word explanation in the first post.

    anyway folks,

if the thread was able to generates some interesting conversations that's all we should really care about.

i love security as long as it's light, not too 'chatty' and don't inpact on my convenience factor.

for example, i've found that many agressive security setups break 'drag & drop' into a browser.
that's one convenience i am not willing to sacrifice to the god security.

Yeah, I need ease of use.

When installing Windows, security is a priority, although it's put into place gradually, starting in the early steps immediately after the base installation, along with functionality, performance enhancing and user settings; I kind of work on it all at once.

For the rare occasions I install Linux, I don't even think about security.

For installation of programs, I don't think of security too much, unless they're security programs :)

Yes, security is a priority for me. I always look for AV's or security software immediately upon the very first boot after a clean install.

Yes, I only use FreeBSD and will reformat without a second thought if I think I've been compromised.
