    Hi out there,

after installing ESS 4.2 i was pretty happy to see that the full-support of thunderbird 3.0.3 works again.

BUT now i got another problem.

When composing a mail - the drafts are normally saved in the drafts folder. If i updated the draft - the copy of the draft itself was updated. But now it just places another copy of the mail under the last draft. So that i dont get one draft - but as many as it updated.
And after sending the mail - the bunch of drafts wont be deleted - the last version is copied to the sent-folder - but the drafts stay in the drafts folder.

After disabling the thunderbird plugin this error disappeared and the drafts were updated normally and deleted after sending.

I hope that i just have a bad configuration of ESS - but i really dont know how to deal with this issue.
Disabling the firewall option in ESS wont help.

    thx in advance

Does disabling scanning email on read make a difference?

    hello marcos,

thank you very much for your reply.
i tested your advice - but unfortunately it didnt make any difference.

i also deactivated the whole firewall - but no change of the situation.

already a mass of different settings combinations didnt change anything.

and: everytime i click the "save ( as draft)" button in a new email composition window - a new copy of the version is placed in the folder drafts...

    thanks for help !

What king of account is it (pop/imap)?
Did you try to configure your account in new profile and verify that your original account is somehow damaged (thunderbird.exe -P)?
If you reproduce it in new account could you provide us exact steps to reproduce it?
Have you installed any extensions to Thunderbird?

    hi estbird,

i re-installed the current thunderbird version - without any extensions / addons.

the only difference from the original is - that i selected POP instead of IMAP with gmail.

when i used the imap protocol - the drafts had been handled absolutely correct - but with pop - the "bug" discribed above still occures after several resets / new accounts / re-installs.

    Hi Wat

We really want to resolve your problem but we need to reproduce problem for our development team. I tried to reproduce your problem as you have written but I didn’t successes. Here is configuration and steps I tried.

    I used:
    • Mozilla Thunderbird 3.0.3
    • ESET Smart Security 4.2.35.0
    • Winxp (32 bit – x86)

    I did following steps:
    1. thunderbird.exe –P (created new profile)
    2. I configured gmail account over POP protocol
    3. I started to write new message (I entered some text)
    4. I pressed button Save on toolbar in dialog of message (name of dialog: Write: …)
    5. I closed composition window (Write:…)
    6. I went to draft folder and opened saved message by double clicking on it ( I also tried to edit it by pressing button edit in message pane view)
    7. Message was opened as I saved it.
    8. I again modified it and saved it.
    9. I again opened message and modified it and saved it.
    10. I can see only message in draft.

Is something wrong of this sequence?
    If so, please specify exactly.

    hi estbird again,

before: thanks for your work !

i think i got a bit closer to the problem:

    ( i did this with 3 different machines -> 1 xp ( old ) and 2 xp pro current updates - all 32 bit )

    - i installed current thunderbird version.
    - created a mail account , gmail , pop
    - setting composition -> auto save ( draft ) evere _1_ minute
    - didnt change anything else.

ESS settings you can see at the 4 screenshots.
    AntiSpam module is DISABLED.

with this settings - IT WORKS FINE !

    BUT:

    Email clients
    Email to scan
    Received Email <---- CHECKED !

    _OR_

    AntiSpam module enabled

    the "bug" occurs.

    how i see it:

    thunderbird settings as above.
    - click button "write"
    - type some text ( dont close window )
    - IDLE ( wait without typing etc )
    - look at the draft folder -> the current version of the composition is saved as draft
    - type next sentence in the windows thats still open ( dont close composition window )
    - IDLE
    - look at the draft folder -> the update of the composition is saved as a NEW mail / draft !
this new version / draft has the new time-stamp but the identical subject.

i checked this with 3 different systems. if you cant rebuild my bug - i could make a video - just for you ;)

    but again:
    thanks for help

Had also noticed the beta created duplicates when Thunderbird auto saves.

Suppose I could have reported it earlier but hard to get motivated given ESET attitude to beta testing

    Hi Wat!

I’ve successfully reproduced it based on your exact description.
I can confirm it is bug and I've entered it into our bug tracking system.

Our developers have to investigate it what exactly happens in this situation.

    Thank you for bug report.

The same with me w/ EAV4.2 on IMAP. 3.0.4 Thunderbird crashed several times with eset plugin - automatically sent logs to Thunderb.

But also a request about lack of detailed help on email checking options. F1 doesn't help much in understanding the conditions of scanning with "receiver mail" and "read mail". And which one is subset/superset of other. Eventually all received mail can/will be red. And all read e-mail is received.
And how protocols or which protocols POP/IMAP allow "read" flags to mail?
How to minimize e-mail client communications to EAV having the same result in security?

What is on one system i got accounts with received mail half of them read and other not then what will be the behavior?
Need detailed info of "read" flag by protocols.
