As the title asks, does the latest version of ESS 3.x work with Win7?

I ask because I was getting BSODs with ESS 4.0.x and 4.2.x and needed to uninstall them. So I either go with ESS 3.x or go with another product.

    Hello GeoPappas,

You may receive a message stating that ESS 3.x is not compatible with Windows 7. Have you tried the latest 4.2 version? If so and you still experience the issue, is there any information that you have provided on the threads that I can take a look at to assist you? Also, have you contact our customer care staff to have an engineer assist you with correcting the issue?

I would like to help get this resolved for you.

    Thank you,
    Richard

Yes, I did receive the message (and hence this post). Why is ESET 3.x supposedly not compatible with Win 7, when it is compatible with Vista (since they are essentially the same O/S)?

As I stated in the original post, yes I have (with the same BSOD results).

Yes, you can check these threads:

Yes, I have. I opened a case about two (2) months ago, but they haven't been able to provide a resolution as of yet.

So after answering your questions, please answer mine:

Does ESET 3.x work with Win 7? If not, then why not?

But can you please answer my question:

No it's not. It's far from it.

My understanding is that Win 7 and Vista come from the same code base (see here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/153624/under_the_hood_windows_7_is_vistas_twin.html). Vista is version 6.0 and Win 7 is version 6.1. So if something works in Vista, it should work in Win 7.

ESET states that ESS 3.x works under Vista. So why doesn't it work under Win 7?

v3 works fine under Win7. What problem are you having with it in particular?

So if ESS 3.x works fine under Win 7, then why hasn't ESET officially stated that it supports it?

The download page (http://www.eset.com/download) lists the following compatibility:
    Microsoft Windows Vista/XP (64-bit)

The Quick Start guide (http://download.eset.com/manuals/ESET_ESS_QuickStartGuide_EN.PDF) lists the following compatibility:
    Microsoft Windows Vista / XP / 2000

Also, why does Win 7 throw up a dialog that states that there are known issues? What are the issues?

As stated in the original post, ESS 4.0.x and 4.2.x has been causing BSODs on my computers for months, so I can't use them. So I need to either go with 3.x (if possible) or find something else. Since ESS 3.x doesn't seem to be supported on Win 7, I am starting to lean towards finding something new (which means that ESET will be losing a customer).

works fine for me well better than v4 anyways. you may get a window saying it's not supported but it seems to work ok. no idea why it's not recommended by eset with all the issues v4 seems to cause certain systems.
