I cannot make a boot CD from Disk Director... even within, or from the standalone utility.

It won't let me make an image OR a CD.

Just checked, and I'm running the latest version 10,2160.

    How can I fix this?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

I have the same problem, I tried both my CD and DVD burners but get an error that they are already busy. The write to A: floppies (1.4M) does work, but you have to do DD and OSS seperatly and each takes like 8 floppies. I didn't bother, so dont know if they would work.

If you bought a Acronis CD you can use it as a recovery CD my 10.2077 works but when I try to make media from the 10.2160 download I get the same problem as described a couple days ago in "Another Dual boot Dilemma".

    Chuck,
    I just had some success!
Believe it or not I had to do this to make a bootable recovery CD.

First uninstall DD and OSS (just to be safe, that's where I started)
Install DD only on the hard drive.
Do not run DD and try to run >Media Builder on it's menu tho it is allowed.
(I know this is crazy but bear with me)
    Go to the >program files >Acronnis >DD >Build Media
    Run media builder from there.
Made the recovery CD for me with both DD and OSS on it!
(I did this with 2077 tho)

This rasies important questions (to me).
Should I have installed both DD and OSS before I made the recovery CD?
Will recovery cd fail me again when I need it, because this proceedure was not correct? Is visa versa true? Will recovery cd fail if it is made when both DD and OSS are installed? Will >prog files >>>build media even work with any of the above combinations?

I am going on (trying to dual boot) with the first recovery cd successfully made.....

If you can, download the latest build (2,160) of DD, install it and recreate the cd so it's up to date.

If you get the "device busy" error message when trying to create the cd, the common solution is to place the cd in the tray of the drive and leave the drive open (the tray out). Then proceed with the builder wizard. The cd drive will pull in the tray and it should burn okay.

Also, generally it's better to include all the programs on the rescue cd. Both the full and safe modes of DD and the OSS programs. That way you can access them from the boot cd if needed (OSS reactivation, for example).

    Three things:

I am already running the latest of both programs which I have already uninstalled and re-installed; I can't only not create CD's but not even images to my hard drive, and NEITHER program will create a recovery cd/image, selecting either program alone or a "full" recovery image/cd.

Oh, and this version of True Image Did and DOES create a CD when alone on my drive.

from your last post I'm not sure you tried...

Did you try starting with the cd tray open?

    Did you use >start >programs >Acronis >bootable rescue media(.exe)
(that is do not run DD and use its menu)

That is a different error than the one I was getting.
Maybe try downloading another copy of 2160 and installing it.
Also, I would email Acronis Support (if they are not reading\responding to this forum already (I'm pretty sure MudCrab is thier highest paid support tech in disguise)) with that exact error code and they should be able to look it up.

I uninstalled all, downloaded new versions (for both) using msconfig I booted with ALL startup programs turned off, and re-installed, and then

The process of boot media worked in both programs, for selected options and/or all options.

    So all is OK now...

Maybe it was something in my startup processes, or a corrupted install.. Or ...

    Thanks,
    Chuck Billow
