Hi Krusty13. I've went into deep inspection, I tried various things. At the moment, I'm almost convinced it is deleting something but not necessarily a file or even in Edge location. I'm sure CCleaner developer will become (or is) aware of this issue. In the mean time, I'm not using CCleaner to maintain Edge browser. I even programmed a little utility that I recorded file information in Edge location, and after cleaning Edge and configuring AdBlock Plus. I've recorded and then I ran CCleaner and cleaned up JUST the Edge cookies. I've then made a new recording and compared, and no deletions made. If I don't do any type of Edge cleaning, all it fine after using CCleaner. If I simply try to just do Edge cookie cleaning, and regardless if I excluded Edge cookie via CCleaner Cookies Exclude, or via File/Folder Excludes. Then Edge AdsBlock Plus extension is messed up, and actually not in it's original state.
Bug is mentioned in CCleaner Forums= CCleaner Bug Reporting Adblock Plus extension filter settings reset in MS Edge https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=46789
Thanks anon, I'm glad it has been reported. And CCleaner development is pretty active, so I'm sure we'll be seeing a working release in the near future.
It would be interesting to know which if any forms of web-content-accessible storage are used in the Edge/ABP context. I mean cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage, indexedDB, WebSQL type storage that is used because you use ABP and which would be available to a remote site. You'd expect an addon to a use a different form of storage... addon-private storage of some sort... for its own data including any rules that are retrieved via subscriptions. But legitimate addon-private storage is also what you'd expect cleaners to stay away from. Is there a feature to inspect what is in the various forms of storage that Edge supports? FWIW, I've seen some [Firefox] subscription update sites use (but not require) vanilla cookies.
That information is irrelevant anyways. Only is Edge Cookie cleaning checked, and after excluding it's associated cookie. Cleaning shows 0bytes / No file entries upon completion.
Thanks Guys! Great! I've posted in the ABP forum as well but so far no-one has replied. https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=47966 Hopefully we'll get to the bottom of it soon one way or the other. Cheers!
I can see their point but this only happens with Edge. I do not have this problem with any other browser. It looks like no fix will be coming any time soon, and no-one has replied to the thread @anon found on the CCleaner forum, so no help there either. Oh well, I don't particularly like Edge anyway.
As far as I noticed, the AdBlock or the Adblock Plus filter lists are not updated since 8 days. The manual update (via the "update now" option) lasts as far as the Edge is open. When the Edge closes and reopens, then reverts to the outdaded filter lists. Edge BS.......... Edit: In order to update the filter lists, the only workaround which I found is: Instead of manual update (via the "update now" option), untick my filter list -> close Edge -> reopen Edge -> tick filter list once again. The new (updated) filter list remain.
I just added EasyPrivacy and Fanboy's Social Blocking List and after closing Edge then reopening it the subscription dates still showed as today. Do you clear cookies when Edge closes? I had to disable that setting.
Showed as today because you added those list just today. Check again after 4-5 days to see if the lists are updated or not. ----------- No.
Thanks, but I meant in Edge itself, not CCleaner. The three dots (More) > Settings > Choose what to clear. There is an option after the AU that you can select to have Edge clear each time it closes.
I don't use the "Always clear this when I close the browser" option. http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/ms-edge-clear-browsing-history-on-exit/
Confirmed! I thought it was just the cookie clean up, but CCleaner may of been skipping Internet Cache.
