Zone Alarm free has been updated to version 3.7.193.0 The update delivers: Increased Stability find it here. http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/updates/znalm/znalmDownloadUpdateGridResultsB.html (PS My fisrt update post so bear with me please.)
Thank You Sir Notageek, you just earned a karmacookie , But I never delete old versions, just in case IF there is a bad bug in update version, concerns all apps. ( I think Steve " Magic" Gibson makes bugs very seldom ) Ari
Just added information for others: ZoneLabs says the best way to get the new version up and running is to uncheck "load at startup" in the program, shutdown ZoneAlarm, go to add/remove programs and uninstall, reboot, and then load the new version.
There may be another reason for the update. According to a Register article http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/55/31481.html there is a theoretical security flaw in the free Zone Alarm version. I strongly endorse the advice on installing the update. This procedure is necesary to avoid amending a program while it is running.
Ongoing story on ZA freeware vuln can be found here: ZoneLabs flip flops again - Will now issue patch for their ZoneAlarm freebie version https://www.wilderssecurity.com/securitynews.html
'Seems as though the truth is surfacing - good thing. The ZA "vulnerability" is really a Windows browser function, which is working that way -by design-. That's what Forums such as this one are all about. In the end ('don't know if we're there yet), all the facts get laid out bare naked for all to see. What we DID see was a bad PR response from a ZA VP which led to an emotional response that had nothing to do with the original issue. Had the initial response been focused more on the technical issue regarding the Windows browser functionality, that would have taken the wind right out of the sails. However, it didn't happen that way...'wish that it had.
