ZASS and ZAAV are very sentitive (due to KAV) to the other security tools installed on the system...

10 minutes is a lot, 3 minutes seems also a lot... I have ZASS latest Beta on my VISTA PC and it adds may be up to 1 minute... of course, the first boot just after installing is a lot slower. You need to give time to the software to populate the ZA program list...

Pity that only ZASS and ZAPRO are on BETA.... you will need to wait for the retail version of the next ZAAV.

    Cheers,

They dropped KAV for the Business Edition but the home versions still use it.

Thats it then, zonealarm was slow because of KAV, when i checked the parser, it was 63, so now that i removed them all it could work out!

3 minutes because Vista is SLOW and couldn't fork out that much for laptop.

I've allowed ZAAV two boot ups and lost my patience. Does it mean that its just the HIPS building an index?

Yes, ZA need sometime to adjust to the system but to be honest 10 minutes to startup is not normal even if ZA is learning....

I have posted some usual troubleshooting steps at the ZA forum for you to try.

I'm looking at my normal start up and it takes and it takes 2 and half mins to get into windows but it just has disk activity for another 3 mins. This totals 5 mins and I think it is way too long. Any solutions for troubleshooting apart from the drastic disable all services approach?

Yes, it is long.... did you ever tried to defrag your boot?
VISTA is very HD intensive but 5 minutes with nothing on is way too long.

The drastic approach is just temporary and easy to recover from. Its the best you can do for troubleshooting startup problems.

If you read the comparison of the various ZoneAlarm products you will discover that ZAAS is not available (non-beta) for Vista and ZAISS does not include most of the features on the Vista version that are available on the XP version, so ZAAV is in fact the best version for Vista.

Yes apparently Checkpoint concentrated on what they perceived as core security suite functions to get the SS out early.

Using ZAAV now and it seems to be running fine. I don't think startup issues related to ZAAV.

Feels kind of weird though. Coming from Comodo and D+ environment, no pops makes me shudder :p.

Configurations for the OSFirewall and program control seems rather skimpy. Is there a more advanced interface?

I've uninstalled it again. Just too heavy. Anyone else find that?

A lot of improvements and fixes have taken place since the retail version was released.

You may want to try the BETA of ZASS. Just to have an indication if latest version is running well on your environment, if still not then time to look for an alternative....

Fax, i think i saw you in ZA forum as guru fax? Since guru's know a lot about ZA, may i ask why ZA's beta (XP) has been speeding along and then stopped all of a sudden with 464? may i ask what the reason is and when it will resume? Also, when is 7.5 going to be realeased? i've checked out and compared the times of realeases from 5 to 7 and it seems to me that 7.5 is a bit late. Is there an alpha version at least? or a hidden beta?

    Hi!
unfortunately, the fact I am GURU there does not mean I know the ZA plans on betas or releases. We do not get these type of information.

Moreover, ZAlabs is known to never publish beforehand release dates of any ZA product.

    Sorry.

    Cheers,

Its possible that this time we may not see a ZoneAlarm 7.5 (instead jumping directly to 8.0), but I am not basing this off anything concrete; its just a little hunch. :)

I set the Firewall (Main Tab) Internet Zone Security to High, the Trusted Zone Security to Medium and modified the details of each a bit.

I set Program Control (Main Tab) to Maximum, and Smart Defense Advisor to Manual, modifying the details of each of those a bit as well.

I certainly hope so. That is rather the point of a firewall after all.

However, if you are asking if ZA, or my settings for ZA, adversely affect my system, the answer is "No".

    New versions of what?

I am running Vista SP1 and ZoneAlarm AntiVirus V7.1.248.000.

Seems to be newer than XP, anyway ;)
