Re: Zone alarm anti virus vesion 7

There is no version number of Kaspersky in ZAv7
... ZA only uses Kaspersky's scanning engine (which has been the same since Kaspersky v5), so Kaspersky v5, v6 and v7 have the same scanning engine, which ZAv7 also uses.

ZoneAlarm AV uses the Kaspersky engine which is currently equivalent to version 6 of KAV in terms of detection rate. Due to the version numbers of several Kaspersky components in ZoneAlarm's AV, it is assumed that the engine used is equivalent to KAV 6.0. However, ZoneAlarm AV does have a few unused Kaspersky 7.0 drivers; which may be functional in a future version. As of right now ZoneAlarm detects and removes the same as Kaspersky 6.0 :)

At 30 USD it is a steal. AV based on KAV and mature firewall and behavior blocker.

Well, klif.sys and one other driver which I forget. Both are marked as version 7.0 and remained unused last I used ZA. But they are present.

run and hide from this :thumbd:

ZA will always be a good firewall, but this is where it ends.

if you want to use kaspersky, use kaspersky.
if you are unsure about the objectID problem with chkdsk and your computer, install kaspersky via a respected product such as gdata/f-secure etc.

How do you know that the ZA AV product is bad? Have you experimented with it?

But that doesn't mean its bad though ;) :)

I've been running ZAIS 7 for the last few days, and it has been a pleasant surprise - I really like the firewall learning program and the suite have been running very smooth :thumb:

Testing AVG 8 beta... Pleasant surprise too but thats another story :D

Oh, i have a license for it, bought one for some money (1 year), chucked it away the next day. Resource usage. I don't like zonealarm because of its exageration- The Most complete internet security and so on. Most complete ehh? No http scanning, no tyding computers, crap program defense, meddles up your internet. How professionaly CRAP.
Still, you have to give it a trial yourself! But I still agree with Mele's motto!

ZoneAlarm AntiVirus (ZAAV) is perhaps one of the best overall security packages available for use on a Vista Home Premium system.

That is just really marketing. Would anyone buy it if it was "the most incomplete internet security suite" :p!! LOL.

Do you really value http scanning? And what is tyding computers?

Is the operating system firewall that crap as a HIPS?

Yeah i agree on the first one, but not the second one, definetely utterly NOT!
Http scanning is important, for me. One day, (when i was foolish) i was surfing with KIS, http scanning off, and virus flooded into the memory, hips didn't block, but only reported it, second day, with http scanning on, i revisited the page, guess what? THE PAGE DID NOT LOAD IT SAID KASPERKSY HAD BLOCKED! Tydying computers ehhh? Its something like a tool in mcafee- quickclean or maintain computer, its on virusscan, yes, thats the basic version, but ZISS, "the most complete internet security" does not have it! Now don't argue that this is a useless tool and that anybody could live without it, because some people cant respectively.
Operating system firewall is crap as HIPS,( why don't they just say Hips instead of boasting with another firewall name? "Industry leading firewall!" Don't say its a marketing strategy again) just messes up your internet conection over time and you begin to lose confidence in the product. Also, you forgot to mention RESOURCE USAGE! Do you know how bad it is? Have you tried it? Why don't you try it for yourself and see how bad it is? This is like a computer diary using ZISS .462 from startup

    Resource usage?
    ZASS 7.0.462.000

    Here I get:
    Vsmon: 30-40MB
    Zclient: 8MB
    Scanningprocess: 600kb (when idle)

    Looks fine to me....
50MB over 1 GIGA memory... more than 90% of memory free.
Running smooth and no slow down on a old centrino laptop, startup delay around 1 minute (may be).

    What do you have?

    Cheers,
    Fax

I get 30-40 mb, consumes all the cpu system idle process- 17 average after install. 50MB over 1 gb more than 5% free average. Running crap on a 1year old pentium D 2.67ghz 1 gb mem desktop, startup delay 20 minutes average. Response time 1 minute average.

All these results are NOT exagerrated

Have you not? Is that how lots of people submit this subject for technical support? Is this not why zonealarm always says in their betas that they are always trying to improve their resource usage? and why they release mini upgrades every couple of months? o_O  :doubt:  :'(

I don't really see much advantage in running ZASS on Vista as many of the features are not there (XP only); however, ZAAV on Vista is running great for me!
